metformin ER- all at once, or with every meal?
I've been on metformin er for a few months now, 1500 mg in the form of 3 500mg pills. I just heard that since it's ER, I can take it all at once and it will work the same than the way I take it now (1 pill with every meal or 2 with dinner and 1 with lunch).
Is this true? What are the benefits of taking it with each meal vs. taking it once a day? Thanks! |
This website says once a day with the evening meal:

Or ask the pharmacist at the store that you got the meds.

i second the suggestion of asking your doc or pharmacist. i take two in the morning with breakfast and two with dinner for a total of 2000 mgs, per my doc's instructions. i don't really understand the mechanics of it all.

You should always take medication as your doctor prescribes it. If you have a question then you should call your doctor and ask what he/she thinks. If it an article you read says it's ok to take it all at once you doctor may have you taking it a specfic way for a reason.
