broken tastebuds!
I've had a cold for about a week and a really low appetite. I eat like a mini-bfst, mini-lunch, normal sized dinner and no snacks. I'm almost never hungry.
When I eat, I can only eat certain things. I'll eat some fruit, crackers, noodles, and potatoes. That's like it. Everything else tastes awful, including foods I normally love. My cold is getting better but my tastebuds are not. I feel like some trauma happened and I'm suddenly this picky eater! Anyone else ever have their tastebuds mess up? (oh yeah and yes, all this picky eating is causing me to lose weight but I'm a bit worried about getting all my vitamins in with such a limited palate.) |
Illness can definitely mess up the taste buds. Might see a doc to check for infection if it doesn't improve in a couple weeks, though, because sinus infections can really mess up taste. Might try some good homemade chicken soup-it does help heal colds, flus, and sinus issues. Get better!

Usually when we have a cold our taste completely vanishes...it will automatically come back to you.Avoid spicy food to increase the appetite...let it happen the natural way.

I'm currently really sick and am eating pretty much nothing...which makes the codeine laced cough syrup work REAL well....hehe.
I worry about getting in vitamins as well - I've been having a serving of Emergen-C three or four times a day to help out, even though I know it's not the same as getting things from foods. You mix a packet into just 4-6 ounces of water, so even if you don't like the taste, you can pretty much just shoot it back, and its over and done with relatively quick. I know that they have a newer pink lemonade flavor that I've been wanting to try... |
