more smile wrinkles as you lose weight???

Hey y'all--

This is kinda a funny post to ask other folks here on this forum :)

I haven't seen a lotta smile wrinkles when I was heavier than I am now.

Nowadays after losing 118 lbs, I'm seeing a lotta smile wrinkles.

Any suggestions on how to reduce or get rid of 'em? lotions? makeup?

You can't get rid of wrinkles "really", apart from surgery or maybe botox. Makeup might act as a concealer.

If you have lost over 100lbs - congratulations, by the way! - your skin might look a bit more wrinkled/thinner because of the padding lost underneath, but I don't think you can do much about it at all. It's a really good thing in a way, a representation of your weightloss! No anti wrinkle cream really works, so don't waste a lot of money on anything.

I have more wrinkles since I lost the weight. The most noticable is those "parenthesis lines" off to either side of my mouth, starting practically from my nose on down to past my bottom lip. They're VERY prononounced. And much more so on one side of my face. I don't know even think it's wrinkles, but perhaps sagging skin.

I don't care for them very much, this much I can tell you. But I've learned to accept and live with them. Those lines and all, it's still MUCH, MUCH, MUCH better then the overstuffed, blown up, distorted, beach ball of a face I had before.

I think the only way I could possibly get rid of them is to "stuff my face back up again", and think we'd all agree that that's not really the best solution ;).

So yeah, I live with them. And they really don't bother me all that much. I'm pretty (VERY) happy with the whole package of *me*. Imperfections and all. :)

^ this.

I think everyone has some sort of wrinklage. I can see mine starting at 20, despite a teetotal, non smoking, sunscreen wearing lifestyle. Must be the stress lol.

Even with my newly appearing "parenthesis lines", people that didn't know me when I was morbidly obese, always think that I am considerably younger then I am. And those that did know me, think I look lots younger now then prior. They're really not an issue. Just another normal part of the aging/weight loss process. Makes me, *ME*.

Just an FYI for any of you really looking for a solution to this problem,or delima, anyway there is a book "Healing with Pressure Point Therapy" by Steve Shimer L. Ac.- which has the directions for doing an at home face lift...it really works!!! Takes a lot of patience and a couple of months, but you will be totally amazed at the outcome!!! I have lost quite a bit of weight and I'm 61 so double whamy, but in two months people started asking if I had had a face lift...You don't need any creams or other stuff, just this pressure point knowledge, and your skin tightens up and you lose most of the wrinckles. and the turkey neck!!!( all that lose skin just swinging around below your chin). So if you have the determination and the patience to do the exercise every day for a couple of months, or however long it takes to get your lose skin sucked up, you too can do it!!!;)

From an article in the New York Times called Twins and the Wrinkles of Aging (which I can't link to because I have too few posts): "“Excessive loss of weight can be detrimental to youthfulness and attractiveness,’’ Dr. Guyuron said. “It’s a warning if you lose too much weight after the age of 40.’’

I don't think I've ever, in my life, heard a doctor to tell me /not/ to lose weight. Maybe when I hit 40 I'll have the pleasure of it :D

Yeah, I've noticed them more. Of course I'm 36 now so I can't be baby-faced forever. And smile lines? Mmmmm.....I smile a lot. Lots of reasons to smile. Not so bad to have proof of years of smiles on my face.

I have crows feet, laugh lines, & a turkey neck...lol. Maybe some day I'll have a face lift. I doubt it, but you never know!

I've got more pronounced lines as well. I'm glad to know it isn't just me! :)

Yep, more wrinkles and also the turkey neck thing going on here, but I'll take that over the flab, laziness, high cholesterol, high blood sugar........any day! Might check into that book, though.......:D

I have more lines too, and definitely a "parenthesis line" like Robin. But I think it's worth it! My fatter face might have looked smoother, but I think I look happier and healthier, and perhaps even younger too!

I quit smoking in October and smoking for 27 years did a **** of a lot of damage to my face. As a reward I bought Oil of Olay Reginerist (little round red jar) and started using it 3 times a day (morning, after work, bedtime) and I am AMAZED at the results. I think the stopping smoking was part of it but the OoO was a big part of it too! I'd had a cracked, bleeding wrinkle between my eyebrows (deep frown line) and it has all but disappeared. The lines on either side of my nose have all but disappeared. I don't have the parenthesis yet so no report on those (I'm only 39). But... I think the OoO has made a big difference and I highly recommend it.

Yes, I've got them underneath my eyes & also those vertical lines bleeding into my lips. But the lines in my face give me more motivation to drink water. When I'm fully hydrated, inside & out, they're definitely less pronounced. That means using moisturizer and drinking plenty of fluids all day long. Getting enough sleep also helps.
