losing in some places, gaining in others

  • i didn't really know were to put this, but i've lost 6lbs since i started this journey on jan. 1st. since then i've started BC because my TOM was very irregular and i just never knew when it was coming. well, i've lost the weight and i've lost in.s all over except on my bust area. it's actually gotten bigger. is this normal for BC?? my doctor told me that i might gain some weight because the hormones would tell me that i was hungry when i'm not, but i haven't felt hungry yet, i've felt the opposite actually. so is that normal?? even my sports bras are to tight now and it's bugging me.
  • Well, I WILL say that BC can cause body composition changes...I went onto Yaz and suddenly developed a larger hip/butt area (but a smaller waist). So hormone levels can affect where you store fat and thus cause redistribution of that fat, including to the bust area. This isn't necessarily a weight gain so much as a "moving things around".
  • Yes, these changes can be within normal. It also is a good idea, if you didn't do it before starting your pills or patch or whatever, to do a pregnancy test.
It won't hurt, and lets you know where you are at. Since you were so irregular, it might be easy to miss. (assuming you are sexually active, I know you said you went on for the periods, not for birth control itself).
My oldest daughter used the pill for a while before having sex to regulate her periods, but found the side effects to great. Then she tried depo. Currently using the ring, gets the benefits for regular painfree periods, good birth control (now living with a wonderful young man) and has no systemic side effects.
  • it is commom- my best friend actually grew a cup size when she went on birth control-

the doctor explained to her it's was just form the added hormones and it does affect where and how your body stores fat.. so things could just be shifting!

also birth control in essence tricks your body into thinking it's already pregnant- when I first started BC i had weird food cravings, and my boobs hurt really bad.. a month later my body adjusted and now it's fine.. light periods, no cramps! hardly any hormonal mood swings! it's great!
  • Yes, it's possible to gain in the boobs from BC.
  • Really? Boobs for me? Real ones? Great!
I'll have a hard time explaining to my hubs that I do want BC after all - since he just had his vasectomy!

All kidding aside, yes - I think that's normal, I have a few friends who have had that experience.
  • alright, thank you. i was just curious because it was a little weird, i thought i would lose my boobs instead of gaining some, but i'm fine with that. and no i'm not sexually active, i have yet to find a man good enough for me. =]
