NOT a compliment

Nothing like be asked when your due when you last time you were pregnant was 6yrs ago :(

nicki rose98 01-25-2009 08:14 PM

How RUDE!!!! I never ask someone that.

TJFitnessDiva 01-25-2009 08:15 PM

Yes that was very rude! I would never ask someone that unless they told me they were pregnant.

Beautiful Ace 01-25-2009 08:28 PM

Whoaaaa.... People can be so rude. My mom looks about 7 months pregnant because she only gains weight in her tummy (and I think her medication has something to do with it too). It really breaks her heart when people say that to her. I can definitely say I'll never ask anybody that question.

bargoo 01-25-2009 08:29 PM

I have been asked that when I was super overweight. It can be very upsetting.

willow650 01-25-2009 08:36 PM

It just reminds me that even though I have lost 14lbs, I still have work to do.

RN BSN 2009 01-25-2009 08:36 PM

Yup! It's a dont ask dont tell policy with me lol

SweetCurves32 01-25-2009 09:23 PM

I had that happen to me... Only it was when someone saw a picture of me holding my newborn niece...they asked when the person holding the baby was due. I was not pregnant!! That was 10 years ago and I still remember the shame and the embarrassment I felt... I am sorry that you had to experience that.

The day after DS was born, we were getting ready to leave the hospital and DH asked "so the kid is out, why is your stomach still like that?" Not the question of a man who wanted to sleep indoors.

Then when DS was 2 months old and napping, I stepped out to check the mail and the neighbor across the street said "hi! When are you going to have that baby?" "I had the baby 2 months ago, but thanks for reminding me I'm still fat."

I'll never forget. It was years ago. About 20. I was at my MIL's house for some function. My SIL was there too, who was indeed actually pregnant. One of my MIL's good friends said to me, "It's so nice that you'll both be having babies at the same time." And I had to go and tell her that noooo, there's just one daughter in law expecting and it wasn't me. She felt so bad. And there I was trying to make her feel better by saying, "oh don't worry, I could see how you could make that mistake." What was I thinking? *I* was trying to make *her* feel better. Grrrr.

I'm sorry you had to experience this as well. May this be the very last time that someone says something so inconsiderate to you ever again.

:hug:MANDY ~ The first time was the hardest, but I've had that happen to me so many times now that I can actually laugh and make a joke of it. Let's see ... I was asked by my landlord, my husband's priest, and the neighbourhood kid, more than once -- who wouldn't believe me when I said 'no', so I told him that I was Mrs. Clause and it was a requirement of the position to have a big belly! ;)

It's gotten to the point now that DH pats me on the belly and says "So, whaddayathink ... is it a boy or a girl?" ... and we both laugh! :D

midwife 01-25-2009 10:44 PM

Ouch. Been there.

Kestrel, oh, man! Does he know how wrong that was?

I've been asked. It was actually one of the reasons that kicked my butt into gear....of course, it is one thing when an average person asks you. It is another thing when an OB, a Family Practice doc, and a neonatologist ask you!!! Grr.....3 docs, who should be able to recognize a pregnant belly versus a fat one.

karmakitty 01-25-2009 10:53 PM

I'm sorry that this happened to you.

I swear, some people just don't know how to keep their mouth shut. that is something that you can just never assume about someone.

jtammy 01-25-2009 11:07 PM

 Sorry that happened to you. It happened to me too, the first time when I was 12 - 13! Some people just don't think before they open their cakehole.
