When did you notice a difference?

I thought there was a thread on this somewhere, but I couldn't find it.

I'm wondering how much weight you had to lose before you or others noticed a difference. So far I've lost 5 lbs and have yet to notice any difference, although I wasn't expecting to.

What was the magic number for you? 10 lbs? 20? I'm wondering how much I will need to lose before I actually look smaller.

Thanks for your thoughts. :D

I was 150 and I am now 138.. I really didn't notice (and I'm sure this is the same reason for you) because I look at myself every day. Until recently I didn't see much of a change.. But, when I went to work and saw a manager I haven't seen in a few weeks, she instantly noticed. My legs and butt are smaller, my arms are thinner, and my stomach is thinner also. I noticed the stomach, but that was all! I also noticed I had a major case of the sag-butt because my pants were getting too big! I didn't actually notice anything until 10 lbs. Good luck!! :D

junebug41 01-18-2009 05:00 PM

35 pounds. A friend made a comment that my face looked thinner and no one else could see it. I couldn't really see it, either. People really started to notice at the 45-50 pound mark.

Edit: You were asking when did "I" start to notice... oops! I began to notice when my pelvic bone appeared seemingly out of nowhere. that was around 175 pounds.

Beautiful Ace 01-18-2009 05:03 PM

I think around 15 lbs I could see a little difference (especially in the inches when I measure)

Now that I've lost 24 lbs or more (I started without a scale) A lot of people I know can see the changes as well as myself.

My stomach is shrinking, my muffin top isn't as horrible as it was when I started. And my boobs have done down greatly.

Jeannette311 01-18-2009 05:19 PM

I can tell that my chest is a little smaller and I can see a TINY space between my thighs. LIke...small as a keyhole but I'll take it. Other than that, not too much of a difference other than I have a lot more energy and I sleep better.

I hope I see more changes soon, because I am really getting depressed over the scale saying the same darn thing.

jmfan317 01-18-2009 06:02 PM

10 lbs for me because my friends could tell because my face was getting thinner and my love handles were disappearing. You may notice a difference when you step on a scale but the physical notice is the best part when your clothes get to big and you have to good shopping for new outfits. I love it and when you try on a pair of pants that fit you perfect its an amazing feeling.

WormwoodDoll 01-18-2009 06:07 PM

My grandmother noticed after about 20lbs. My friend Eve noticed, too. But they're people I don't see often. Every day people barely notice now

I noticed LAST NIGHT how much I really have changed. I saw videos for the first time from a party I had in June. I was wearing my PJ's playing beer pong with a group of friends. I wear those PJ's all the time! I can't believe how much my stomach stuck out and how heavy I looked! It was an eye opener for me because I could barely see any differences, but I do now.

Viktoria 01-18-2009 06:26 PM

15 pounds. Just last week I went out with my mom and ended up buying a dress that was a full size (probably size and a half, really) smaller than I had been wearing. I knew I had been losing weight (the scale told me so!), and one or two people not in my family had commented on it, but buying something tangible, with a different number on it, actually got that fact into my head.

zenor77 01-18-2009 06:48 PM

Personally, I didn't notice anything until after losing 20lbs. I don't think other people made comments until I'd lost over 40lbs.

Violin Jenn 01-18-2009 06:57 PM

I, as well as others, started to notice the weightloss when my clothes started to get baggy. It's fun to watch your clothes go from tight to being so big and baggy you find yourself doing the saggy pants dance!:cb::jig::carrot:

kelly315 01-18-2009 07:01 PM

I noticed a difference in my first five pounds, but that's not something you can go off of for your own experience. I was over 100 pounds heavier than you when I first started losing, so of course it will be different.

sws19 01-18-2009 07:14 PM

according to the scale i just bought last week, i have lost about 16-29 lbs since going to the doctor in october. unfortunately i have yet to notice any real difference in my clothes or anything. the one thing i did notice is that my rings are a little bigger around my fingers, and that was only in the last week.
can't wait until i can fit into my regular clothes again.
so slow. sigh.

booskibabe 01-18-2009 08:06 PM

Wow! This has been so helpful.
sws19- I am so with you on waiting for clothes to fit. I had a baby 4 months ago and barely any of my clothes fit. We will both get there!

I will be seeing my SIL at the end of February, and I haven't seen her since Christmas, so hopefully there will be an obvious difference by that point. Anyway, it will be interesting to see if she notices any difference.

choirgirlhotel 01-18-2009 08:11 PM

I personally notice at about 10 lb.
Other people usually notice at about 15-20 lb.

Onmyway 01-18-2009 09:49 PM

At 25 pounds, a few people noticed.
Now at 35 pounds more people are noticing, especially those that I have not seen in a while. Today I was at the grocery and ran into 2 different friends that I had not seen in a while. They both commented on how much I had lost. I was surprised because I was wearing a coat and they still noticed.

jahjah1223 01-18-2009 10:13 PM

20 pounds :-D

FB 01-18-2009 10:46 PM

About 3 months into the game I noticed some physical changes. However, I felt better from eating healthily right away - like a week.

Nayex 01-18-2009 10:52 PM

i noticed after a few days of dieting.. and everyday i notice a little more and more. my clothes fit weird, or i'll glance at myself in the mirror, and wonder where half my face went... and thats at about 30lbs.

i notice more when my clothing starts getting loose.

butterflygurl 01-19-2009 12:15 AM

It's so weird! I've lost about 25 pounds and can't really notice other than my pants fitting looser on me. Other than that I feel like I've gotten bigger. My mother seems to notice though and makes comments like your butt is smaller lol! I think I will need to lose another 20 to really see a difference.

lottie63 01-19-2009 01:59 AM

I've lost 25 and don't really notice a difference. My hope is that once I lose another 15 I will notice something.

*Shrugs*

I guess I can see it in my face a smidge.

redlight 01-19-2009 02:11 AM

Less than 10. I could tell the difference in my face.

MorgaineDax 01-19-2009 09:42 AM

I didn't get a comment from other non-family members until around 25-30 pounds I think. Which was also right around the time my work pants were getting so saggy, I looked like a hobo.

Smiling_Sara 01-19-2009 10:03 AM

There are days where I still can't tell. But when others started was about 50 lbs

Thighs Be Gone 01-19-2009 10:12 AM

I noticed about 20 pounds down. Others noticed 30-35 pounds down. Rarely now do I have a day that someone doesn't comment. There are days I feel really fat and feel like I am gaining weight by the minute.

katiecron 01-19-2009 10:30 AM

my tummy appears less "out there" and my pants are sagging a bit already. i do a lot of lower body stuff, though. i doubt anyone will notice with me until about 30 lbs. but i notice. i feel better, my clothes fit better, more energy, sore muscles from working out...

fld20 01-19-2009 10:38 AM

For me people began noticing at about 7lbs down and they were sure I'd lost much more than that :)

kestrel 01-19-2009 11:55 AM

At a little over 35 lbs down, I still can't tell a difference when I look in the mirror. Logically, I know there's been some change because my clothes size has changed, but it's hard to tell a difference when I look in the mirror.

My husband has been gone for several months now (he's in the Navy), so I'm hoping that he'll be able to see a difference when he gets back. :D

anastasia 01-19-2009 12:00 PM

i've lost about 25 lbs and i still dont see a difference.

JulieJ08 01-19-2009 12:23 PM

It depends a lot on your height, starting weight, and body type, plus how much of change there is in your fitness.

I could tell some changes by 10 pounds, because I moved comfortably back down into 16s. I was barely into a bigger size when I started, or it might now have been as noticeable.

Then around 30 pounds, I started to feel somewhat normal. Like I was just a normally overweight person instead of a really big one, if that makes any sense. I felt like I blended in more.

After 40 pounds, the physical changes started coming a lot more. Less double chin, more collarbone, less belly, starting to see muscles.

I notice smaller changes now. Other people don't notice them so much, I think some may think I've stopped losing. But the changes I'm seeing, although quite definite, are more the sort you need to see me in a bikini to appreciate ;) Or maybe my family is just sick of my weight loss :dizzy:

MonteCristo 01-19-2009 01:55 PM

Right about 20lbs.

H8cake 01-19-2009 01:55 PM

It took quite a while for others to notice, like 50 pounds. I think it is harder for others to see when a person is as overweight as I was. I noticed changes within a couple of weeks, mostly in how much better I felt. Now that I'm closer to goal other people notice change much more often. It's like that paper towel analogy that has been posted here on 3fc somewhere.

Jayell posted this:Now I'll tell you about the paper towel roll. This is one of my favorite analogies. You've got two large rolls of paper towel. Each day you tear one sheet off one of the rolls. After a week, they still look about the same... but as time goes on, you'll notice a bigger and bigger difference. That's because as the roll gets smaller, each sheet is a greater percentage of what's left.

So weight loss is like this. So far, you've lost more than 10% of your start weight, but the next 30 pounds will be a greater percentage. You'll see! The difference will become more and more obvious.

Schumeany 01-19-2009 02:23 PM

Our brains really do take a while to catch up...but I noticed a difference about 15 pounds down...and I REALLY noticed a difference about the time I hit the top of my "normal weight" range for my BMI...at a little over 20 pounds down (From 182-159). I don't know if it was just psychological, but it gave me a real burst of accomplishment and suddenly I felt better in my clothes and had more confidence. Then, for the next 15-20 pounds, I felt about the same...until I hit around 140-145...then I felt like I jumped down in size...because I had been wearing my 12's and 10's and suddenly I had to go out and buy Size 6's.

wannabealewis 01-19-2009 02:26 PM

noticing

I have lost 34 lbs so far, which leaves me weighting 186 lbs. Just now everyone is noticing and telling me how great I look. It's wonderful, just be patient!

Candi23 01-19-2009 02:49 PM

Well, I have been eating all of this stuff I never imagined eating. When do you start seeing a difference? My family says they can already see it...I can't though.

ninepaw 01-19-2009 03:06 PM

It seems like some people notice right around when I lose 10 lbs. I personally never seem to get it until I go shopping and I'm having fun trying on the smaller sizes! Kind of frustrating, but what can you do?

I feel exactly this way right now. I tried to explain this to someone last week, about how I feel "normal" now (which is funny, because I am still obese), but she just didn't get it. I used to feel like I had a spotlight on me (not in a good way), but now I just feel like I fit in more.

As for me, I could see changes after about 20 lbs, but I was looking. :)

xJox 01-19-2009 06:09 PM

I was well over 20 lbs gone before I could really tell at all. I was closer to 40 lbs gone before others noticed.

Sun_Flower2 01-19-2009 06:24 PM

it prolly depends on how much u weigh to start with. but my sister and a friend noticed right away when i'd only lost 5-7lbs. But the number when I started getting lots of people commenting on how great I was looking and they could tell I lost weight was about the 17lb mark. They said is showed in my face and my clothes alot. But I've been stalled at about that now for months. :( I should focus on losing the next 17lbs.
