Easy to answer. I picked 145 because that is what I weighed when I got pregnant with my eldest daughter 15 years ago. I didn't pick my lowest weight (125) which is what I was at 22 when I got married because I just think my body has changed too much over the last 20 years to get there. I think I'll be very happy with 145. But, I have no idea what size that would be now since they have done that creeping up thing over that time. I have a fabulous black leather skirt that I have held on to all this time and I really, really want to get back into it!
I really haven't got a firm one in mind just yet .... Mine went down a little yesterday after noticing everyone else's about my height (dreadful reason I know).... I would like to see what happens ... would be good to get in the healthy weight range first ...
I picked my goal weight based on a series of 10% losses. I am easily overwhelmed by large, looming goals, so I just lose 10% of my weight at a time. After five 10% losses, I will weigh 134 lbs. This is in the healthy BMI range for my height. I have an optional sixth 10 loss, taking me to 121 lbs, but I am pretty sure I will not get there. I am also pretty curvy - even when thin.
But, like many others, I am much more interested in feeling good, and my goal is likely to change as I approach my current goal weight.
I picked 140 because it was in the normal BMI range and seemed healthy for my age (50+) and height (5'4"). When I reached it, I realized that with my small frame, it was still too high, and lowered it to 135 and then again to 130.
My body seems to have settled into 123-125, thus I think my body picked my goal weight instead of me.
My goal weight (120) was the lowest weight that I had been able to maintain for any length of time with my history of yo-yo dieting. I bounced around in high school between 120-130, when I was very active with walking everywhere, swimming, playing intramurals. Gained a ton of weight in college, then back down to 115 with crazy dieting before my wedding. Put it all back on again with 3 kids. When I joined WW I set my goal at 130, mostly because I wanted a high goal to achieve Lifetime status and not have to pay for meetings anymore. Since using South Beach since January, I have been able to lose more and maintain at a much lower weight than I've ever done before. For some reason, I've always thought that 115 must be my perfect weight because of the old rule (5# for every inch over 5' + 100#).
I'm tall, and when i was in h.s i was around 145-150 easily maintained. I know that i won't get that low again after 2 kids, but i think 160 will be doable. It is right in the middle of the healthy weight for my height too.
My boyfriend picked it. When I picked my own goal weight it was 99/100 lbs, which is the low end of a healthy weight for my height. My boyfriend thought that was way too low (the smallest he's seen me is 148). He asked what's the lowest I've ever weighed (124) and then picked 115.
My mom has been 110-115 since she's had me and many people have complimented her for being so in shape (she is an exercise maniac, too). I guess since I've never really been below 120 (since elementary school!) I'll have to get there and see how I feel.
To tell you the truth...I have no idea. All these interesting reasons and I don't really know.
My goal weight is on the lowish end of my BMI. I think when I've weighed 125 (which I am pretty sure I have) I probably had less muscle and my body wasn't as developed. I've only had a scale for about 2 years; 125 might be too low. Dunno.

Its the weight on my drivers license...and I was lying then! (But my lowest high school weight was 139, I was two inches shorter and still looked good.)
I have a goal weight for now, but once I get there - it may change. I may want to be slightly lower or higher (within 2 kilos either way, I'd imagine).
Thank you for all the input. It was very fascinating and interesting to hear how others selected goals. I suspect mine may change over time and for now I am focusing on ten pounds at a time. I'm into my second ten pounds going away. I don't want to set a date for when to lose any particular amount so that I won't be disappointed if I don't make it - but small goals are how I am going to do this
When I did WW the first time I got just under 150. I was happy with myself then but wasn't working out so still felt flabby. I picked 140 because of one of the before after pictures on here where a gal started at about my weight and the after picture showed her at 135 looking HOT. So I just figured, why can't I make it to 140??? I'm still stuck just above the 160 mark and today it's frustrating... I've been a work out freak latley but just can't seem to get the eating where it obviously needs to be.
