I really do hope this water weight goes away after that time of the month because the extra three pounds I gained since yesterday is going to drive me insane.

Is there anything I could do after that time of the month that could get rid of the extra water weight or does it just go away along with my period?

I just wanted to say, i SO can relate. Every single month without fail the day before I get my period, when I wake up in the morning it looks like I'm several months pregnant. I'm not kidding- my mother and boyfriend have both noticed it too, they think it's hilarious.

I know with water weight the best way to get rid of it is to drink more water, because it flushes a lot of it out of your system. I guess you could try drinking a lot more a couple days before your period and see if that works. Actually...I might have to try that myself!

LOL, my boyfriend thinks it's funny because I cannot for the life of me suck it in to at least make it look normal. So if I can I just stay at home and excercise so afterwards I can just let it all hang out. Haha.

Evince, if it helps, here is my chart of daily weights. Each TOM cycle starts a new line. TOMs are the gray shaded areas at the left. As you can see, lots of ups and downs, and not necessarily the same pattern each month.

I'm really panicking, will this go away? My weight seems to have gone up again... even though it's nearly the end of my period.

Sorry Julie, do you mean, every gray shaded area is from the start of TOM to the end (left to right)?

No, the whole line is the whole cycle. Each box going across the page is one day. Sorry.

I had a month like that - the third up from the bottom. Was still a good month in the long term. Weighing every day made it so much easier for me to take the fluctuations in stride. But for some people, it's the opposite. Maybe weighing every day isn't for you if it's going to make you panic.

Oh I see so it's for the whole month. And the gray part is during the time you had your period? :^:

Yes I don't think weighing everyday is great for me... but am staying at my parents house at the moment, and they have a scale, so it's just oh-so-tempting to weigh everyday. You know? I usually only do it once a week (formally).

Woah lady, slow down! It's okay! I promise!

Your weight will fluctuate day to day WITHOUT your period, add in a bunch of blood and hormones and you've got a recipe for chaos! There's no way to know what is 'normal' for your body until youve really kept track of how your weight fluctuates during your period. And even then, I know I can speak for a lot of people here that sometimes you'll step on the scale and it'll seem way up, and a day or two later it'll be back to normal..and thats on just a normal week!

2lbs of water weight is not going to effect how you look, your health, even your bmi! If you've been sticking to your plan and not giving into those crazy chocolate cravings :dizzy: theres no reason to worry.

Hey evince! If this is the first time you've paid attention to weight fluctuation, then sure, you're probably surprised. Don't get bent out of shape over it, though--as Hypra says, weight goes up and down all the time! And those daily ups and downs don't mean you are gaining or losing fat. Bodies are more complex than that.

Go back to your weekly weigh-ins as soon as you can. Oh, and you are sticking with your food plan, right?

Jay

Hi Jay! I might be overreacting a little... :dizzy: I've got an official doctor weigh in tomorrow (my last one was a week ago)... so I am pretty terrified! The scale I use at my parents house is a digital one, so I don't know how accurate the thing is!

Yes am sticking to a 1200 cal food plan and I'm 5'3. Exercising at least 30 minutes a day (cardio).

Hopefully tomorrow isn't going to be disastrous... wish me luck :(

I find it more reassuring weighing daily. If it goes up by even 1/2 a pound I am working on it THAT day. Sure, it could be water retention or whatever but the extra exercise and healthier eating will do me even more good.

I had a facilitator at WW argue this point with me and told me I was dead wrong and should only be weighing once a week--which is why I never joined. You really have to find what works best for you and go with it.

I am dealing with TOM now too. My weight is up 1.5 pounds and it is making me depressed. I have already run this morning though, plus walked DD to school, then ate three egg whites, four strawberries and 25 oz of water. I hope to be down by Saturday, Sunday latest.
