  • Eve,

By all means look into WLS, however, most of weight loss is achieved through what you eat. It is quite possible to lose weight with a controlled diet and little to no exercise. I myself use both, however, my first month when back to losing weight in December of last year I did almost no exercise and managed to lose 12 pounds. As the weight came down I incorporated more exercise. Even with surgery you'll need to create better eating habits so why not give that a try first?

Good luck with whatever you decide.
  • My recommendation would be to go to www.obesityhelp.com This forum gives you insight into all of the different WLS procedures. Please look into this very carefully. The complication rate and death rate are only from clinical trials and so some epidemiological studies are coming out saying the rates are higher. ie if a patient ends up with complications down the road and passes away from pneumonia it will not get attributed to WLS and there is no database tracking outcomes. I am not trying to discourage, I just truely believe in going into something with eyes wide open. There are many people whose lives have been saved by this procedure and there are fewer others who wish they had not gone down this path. So read about the surgeries, read the complications forum as well, and read the success stories.
