Does location within your house affect your tendency to overeat/binge?

I discovered something amazing today.
I work from home and all these days I have been working from the living room.
Today, my wireless did not work and I moved to one of our bedrooms to hook my laptop to the router.
I worked there the whole day and did not think about food at all. NIL... NADA...

While in the living room, I watch TV (food network mostly) and constantly get the urge to eat. Even if I am not watching TV, I get that same urge.

But today was awesome.

Does anyone else experience such a thing?

I have to go through the kitchen to get to my room. Or rather, if I am leaving my room to go to any other room, or leave the house, I have to go through the kitchen. That makes it hard to avoid it. Sometimes if I am sitting in my room and I get bored, I find myself wandering to the fridge.

My kitchen is right next to the living room... so if I'm doing something in the living room, like doing homework or stuff, I tend to eat more. But if I'm in my room doing stuff, I tend to eat less. (Of course, that's if my bf isn't going 'hey hey hey are you hungry...lets eat something') lol.

I definitely eat more when I'm sitting in my family room which is right off the kitchen. It's an open floor plan, so I literally look right at it from the couch. I also love to watch the Food Channel, so it's inevitable that I'll eat more. I blame my husband.....he built the house!

I'm the same way when I work at home. If I work in the living room, I have a clear line of sight to the kitchen and I tend to eat more. But if I work in the office (on the 2nd floor) I rarely think about food!

Interesting! I'll have to try it and report back!

:D

Yeah, I noticed that I eat less in my days spent outside or upstairs in my room. My living room, however, is right next to the kitchen so I find it to be more difficult when I'm stationed in there to do my day's activities...

YES! LOL
If I'm in the family room, where everyone is watching TV, I can see the kitchen from there and the foods that are lurking in there taunt me. :cbg:
I think it's a combo of all the food commercials and the view of the kitchen.

Thankfully we don't do much TV. And I've also found that when my sink and counters are all clean and dry (but hard keep that way with 5 kids), then I tend not to want to "mess it up".

Must tell DH we need a bigger house so I can get farther away from the kitchen. I don't think where I am in the house makes much difference.

I think the only room in the house, in which I've never eaten, is the bathroom. Though I've made the craftroom a no food zone (licking a paintbrush by mistake, inspired that decision).
