Gained 5lbs in 2 days??

I was doing really good and lost 2 pounds! But then I totally messed up both Monday and Tuesday...ate a bunch. I usually weigh myself everyday in the morning but I didn't monday until really late at night. When I did weigh myself the scale said I had gained 5 pounds!

I just shook it off as some weirdness and waited until tuesday morning...it said the same thing. Even this morning it said the same thing.

I don't see how that is even possible :( Is my scale busted perhaps? Or is it just normal fluctuations and I shouldn't panic?

I didn't totally binge those days but I did eat quite a bit then I had been for the last 2 weeks. At the same time though I finally started drinking lots of water. Finally my 8 classes a day, could that have something to do with it?

i seriously would not stress, it is more than likely just bloat... get back on plan, drink that water and do some exercise.. itll be gone in no time!

It is most likely water. Don't panic! :)

Have you seen our phenomenal thread about water weight and why the scale fluctuates? You should read it - EVERYONE should read it!

When you say "quite a bit," do you have any idea just how much?

Many people track calories for just this reason--they want to quantify things so they aren't guessing. For example--a bag of Doritos (12-14 oz.) can contain 1,820 calories, which is a whole day's calories right there for a lot of people. :fr: Add a couple of beers, and that's one costly snack...

FitDay and TheDailyPlate are useful calorie-tracking sites.

That would be my question, too.

3500 cals = 1 lb. So to have gained 5 lbs of fat, you'd have needed to eat 17,500 calories *over* your baseline in 2 days. Do you think you really ate that much?

OTOH, if you ate badly, not just in quantity, but in quality, it's entirely possible that you ate more salt, more oils, more of things that is causing your body to retain water and bloat. So it's quite possibly a combination of the two, but I'd bet money that most of it is water.

And FWIW, I gained and lost 4.2 lbs in the last 5 days because of my TOM ... so don't discount that either.

.

Thanks everyone. I am a little bit calmer now not wanting to jump off a cliff lol.

Thanks mandalinn82. I did see that thread right after I posted. Great information.

I was doing so good and started keeping track of all my calories, before those two days.

I know I didn't eat 17,500 calories! lol I had like 3 tacos idk how many calories they were but just looking at the shells and cheese were like 200+each! And I also had some very greesy cheesy breadsticks oO

I guess it is just a lesson learned. I gotta be more committed and not let little temptations just run wild :(

I don't even understand why I have to eat & eat like I never had food before. If i like it, I can have leftovers or eat it once a week every week lol. I don't have to stuff my face with everything in sight right then :(

I know I've gotten advice not to weigh myself everyday, only once a week or so. Mostly because of fluctuations like that. I also try to weigh myself at the same time of day because I weigh less in the morning.

It's quite normal to weigh a lot more at night, think about it,you're system is still full of all that food that hasnt had time to digest! You should always stick to weighing yourself at the same time, on a morning.

Definitely don't panic -- after one 3 day camping/vacation binge weekend, I was 10 pounds up afterward!! It was mostly water and bloat and it came right back off within a few days. The important thing is to jump right back on plan and keep going ....
