First of all
I said in another thread that dieting seems to be a process of fine-tuning things, of finding what does and does not work for you, and applying that knowledge.
The way I see things, you are trying to tell yourself that your current approach is not a good fit. Maybe you are being too restrictive. Maybe you are trying to make too many drastic changes all at once. Maybe you just hate the plan you are following and need to try something different.
For example, if calorie counting is not working for you, maybe you would be happier on South Beach or some other approach.
Or, maybe you just need better planning. If you free-wheel things, maybe you need something more structured, such as sitting down once a week, planning out
everything that you will eat for the following week, and keeping track of it by either writing it down or logging it online.
I personally hate planning. I hate sitting down with a calculator, measuring things out, making a menu for the week, and so on.
Hate it! Whenever I would force myself to do it, I would inevitably fall right off the wagon after a few weeks and blame myself for failing when the real problem was that I hadn't found something that I could really stick with yet.
In the past, I also thought I could succeed by sticking to frozen diet meals like Lean Cuisine. Sure, it worked for a little while, but I hated the food and eventually quit.
Calorie counting, menu-planning, measuring, frozens meals---all those things have worked for different people here very well. They just didn't work for
me.
The point is that you have to find what works for
you. What works for me may not work for anyone else in the world. What worked for Glory or for RockinRobin probably wouldn't work for
me.
Some of us are lucky enough to find that magical right plan right off the bat--sort of like some people fall in love at first sight and stay married for 70 years to the same person. The rest of us have to experiment a little bit before we find "the one" -- in this case, it would be "the one" plan that we can stick to for the rest of our lives.
I could go on and on, but I know other people here will come along with great tips and support.
Don't give up, Crazed! You
CAN do it!
