Down 2.5+ pounds
since Saturday. I'm excited, but is it normal to lose that much the first week? I've been wondering if I'm cutting my calories too low. I do 1500-1600 a day, but I'm still weaning my daughter from nursing. I never feel hungry or deprived. Do most people lose more the first week and then it tapers off?

It seems like for a lot of people, when they first start out, they lose a lot the first week or two due to losing extra water that their body has been carrying.
I lost 2.4lbs my first week. And then after that it slowed down a bit. Though I have the occasional exceptionally fast or slow week now and then, I usually lose 2-2.2lbs/week. It seems to depend on your current weight, as well. People that start out at a higher weight seem to lose those first pounds faster than people who start out at a lower weight. That probably wasn't very helpful. :o Unfortunately, there's no "normal" weight loss rate that is the same for everyone. After you've been working your plan for a little while, you'll start to see a pattern emerge. It sounds like your calories are probably about right, but I'm not a calorie-counter so I'm not entirely sure about that. Good luck! |
Hey! enjoy it! :cheer2: :cheer2:
It's typical for people to drop a lot in the first week that they change their eating--although not everyone does. Mostly, this is water weight from metabolism adjustment. After the first couple of weeks, weight loss does tend to slow down. Jay |
