"Widely known" doesn't always mean accurate...lots of things are "Widely known" in the diet world that don't make a whit of difference to lots of people...like not eating after a certain hour, which isn't necessarily a pre-requisite for weight loss as many of the site's biggest losers prove.
Bottom line, I think, is that we are all individuals when it comes to whether we are affected by diet sodas. If they affect you negatively, don't drink them. Being unaffected, though, I'll stick with my moderate consumption.
