Default An open letter to my body

Dear body,

This is concerning our discussion last week re weight loss. I need to know what is going on. I have spent 2 weeks eating between 1200-1400 calories with a day at 2000 each week. I have done moderate exercise at least 5 times a week, with longer running and resistance training in between. In addition, you have been getting between a gallon and a gallon and a half of water a day, a multi-vitamin, 30-40 g of fiber, and clean, healthy food the entire time. The most fake thing I have put in you has been a protein shake and a Twix fun size bar.

My problem is that had I done this a year ago, you would have been losing weight faster than my husband loses his panties at a Marc Anthony concert. Even the alcohol on my birthday, you have never been sensitive to it. Remember? You decided to lose about 50 pounds and still have your beers on Friday?

Now, I'm not putting any blame on anyone. You did a fantastic job getting back to ticker weight after Spain. I can say that now my ticker accurately reflects what the scale says when I'm naked after pee in the morning. But would it kill you to show a 172???

I'm sorry, that was uncalled for.

What I mean is that I need to know what is going on. What is happening? Do I need to change something? Do I just need patience? As Tom Cruise said "Help me help you". Help me help you. I know that I am steering you in a direction that is unusual for you, but that's why we need each other. Do you want more protein? Less protein? More calories? Tell me.

Yes, I know I abused you by over training last week. But it was only the butt, and you know that it can be pain. I promised it would never happen again, and so far it hasn't. See, I'm willing to work through this. Just let me know how.

Okay, I know this conversation has been a bit of a shock to you, so I'll let it sink in. If you have any ideas, please let me know, if not I'll give us a week of the same plan, and if we are still having some difficulties, we'll see what we do.

Sincerely,

My brain.

So funny!

I think that our bodies are like children. We can consistently offer guidance and discipline and we think or expect they will respond a certain way and then they go and do something that leaves us banging our heads on the concrete floor and thinking what in the world?? Does that child who did that thing really belong to me? After all my care and guidance? Say it ain't so!

Obey, body, obey!

Hang tough, Archy. Your body will reward you. Even the most errant child can make it into Harvard. So too will your body make you proud.

O my...thank goodness i went before reading this. I do just love archy's sense of humor!! I look forward to always reading her messages. lol.

I agree with what she writes. Do give it another week. I was stuck at 134 for like 3 weeks and all of a sudden...2.5 pounds went away. It was amazing and just what i needed to boost my self confidence that i wasn't totally being a bad host to my body. Finally, my body rewarded me. Maybe it appreciated the fries and burger from micky d's....who knows. Hang in there Archy. you can do this!!!

Oh Archy, you're funny - and clever. I like that!!! If you ever get tired digging for bones and stuff, I'm pretty confident you could make a living being a journalist. Or maybe a stand up comic. Or both.

Anyway, maybe, just maybe, you'd like to ditch that 2000 calorie day, cut it back a tad - to maybe 1500 or so? Shake things up a bit if you're getting impatient. Regardless, your body is going to answer you back with a big old, (or perhaps I should say a LITTLE old) 172 - eventually. Hang tough, tough lady.

Very funny Archy.

I had the same thought as Robin: it might be time to rethink that 2000 calorie day. You could tinker with your macros too. How long have you been stuck at this weight?
