Taking Measurements.... how often?

I have decided to track my measurements as I lose weight and tone my muscles....

For those of you who do this, how often do you do it?

I was thinking once a week is too often... probably won't see much change

once every 2 weeks? once every month?

it can be discouraging to just go by the scale especially when I will probably be adding muscle.

Thanks!

When I've tracked measurements as part of weight loss I've done it once a month.

That's a great idea! I only wish I would have taken my measurements before I started my journey. But I didn't. I waited til about 3 months in and at that point I had already lost a bunch of inches.

I take my measurements about every 5 or 6 weeks. Keep in mind though, that it's next to impossible measure in the same exact spot each time, so there very well may be some discrepancies.

On a side note, just be aware that it takes months and months of strength training to build muscle.

Good luck to you. :)

I measure every week and keep it in a small journal. On the weeks where I don't lose a ton of inches, all I have to do is look at page one and breathe a sigh of relief that at least it's not THOSE measurement anymore!

I use a spreadsheet where I track my measurements, weight, BMI, and clothing size once a month. It's nice to be able to see the slow decline all on one page. :smug:

I do it on the first of every month (though I'll wait a day or two if I'm bloated from TOM), alongside my weight. It's quite motivating. I didn't start tracking until I had already lost 10 lb -- I only know my waist measurement from my start date. :( I'm glad I started, though, because the measurements shock me more than my weight change itself!!

I just started over on my weight loss and I think it's about every 3 weeks or just once a month.

I have this plain $2 white shirt that I wear when I measure and I drew a line all around where the tape measure is supose to be so I "Kinds" measure in the same spots every time.

I'm such a dork lol

I used to do it once a week. There was more change in the measurements than I would have thought within a week, although the losses weren't spread out evenly. Once week I would lose inches on my arms and legs, with no loss in the waist/hips/bust; the next week I would lose it all in the torso with no losses in the extremeties.

I still wish I could do it once a week, but the lady who was doing it for me at the gym quit, and now there's a different lady there almost every time I go. It's hard to get consistent measurement week after week unless the same person is doing it, because each one pulls the tape a little tighter or looser.

No way, this is a BRILLIANT idea!!! Buy a shirt that's pretty tight, then use it as a guide!

BRILLIANT I say, BRILLIANT!!

Except that as you lose weight, the lines drawn on the t-shirt will no longer measure the right places... It'll work for a couple of sizes, but not for many.

On the same topic (sort of), anyone know a place I can find the ratios of bust/waist/hip for apple, pear, hourglass, etc shapes?
