I'm a really big wine drinker. I have at least two glasses a day and far more one the weekends and when I'm socializing. I was able to lose weight this time without cutting out the wine--just lucky I guess.

For those of you who would rather moderate your wine consumption rather than eliminate it, you could try making a wine spritzer, with an ounce or so of wine and sparkling water. That wouldn't be nearly as bad for the waistline, but you still get to have a little wine and enjoy the after-work wine ritual.

Well, I can see I'm not gonna be much help here ;)

Oh, Gary! You could have at least suggested Lite Beer!! LOL

True ALLISON...I have not had a beer since Thursday night, when I had 2 Coors lights. I really wanted to hit 180, which I did on Friday, and I wanted to stay there for at least a few days. I have been there for 4 straight days now...so...we'll see.

Personally, I don't have a problem with a couple of light beers a night....but then I didn't have a problem with 6 of 'em either ;)

Oh wow! That is such a good idea, I never even thought of that. I am going to try that this weekend when I want to drink more than 2 glasses of wine...maybe I can do 1/2 and 1/2. And then next week... :) Oh wait: my friend is coming from out of town this weekend and I'm making Sangria. So much for low calorie drinking! :P

Just thought I would update and let you all know that I did not have a drink last night! I had a couple of "mock-tails" (I bought some sparking water and added a strawberry and a couple blueberries, mock-sangria style) and a bubblebath, and bought some Valerian Root for those days that my mind is racing at night. I'm sure with all the support I have recieved I will make it to Sunday (my goal day, I'm weighing in that day) wine-free. Tonight I'm going to Target to pick up a yoga DVD. Yea! Have a wonderful night, ladies and gents!

UGH, alcohol has been my biggest nemesis, too! I was talking to a nutritionist once and telling her that I have the uncanny ability to lose weight while pregnant and gain weight while training for a marathon. She asked about my eating patterns and we determined the biggest difference was the lack of alcohol while pregnant. She said while the pregnancy and the exercise both increase metabolism, alcohol is a depressant and it slows metabolism - not just while you are drinking, but even after. Therefore, if you are drinking daily and more than a glass or two you get the picture of the compound effect. :censored:

I've now cut back to only drinking a glass or two on Friday and Saturday, and as before I'm already seeing a difference. It's great, but frustrating because I love my wine/vodka cranberry/etc. Ah well, when I am a size ten again it will all be worth it. :)

Good luck to you, Audrey, you can do it, too! :cheer:

I'm on the Sonoma diet and they encourage a glass of wine -- but I did find that I really have a problem with it!! I didn't realize how much I drank until I started doing Fitday and writing everything down.

Now I do have a glass of wine on Fri, Sat, Sun nights but most weeknights, I've replaced it with Perrier and lime. I dunno there is something about those little bubbles that are festive. At first it was kind of difficult to wind down but I belong to the Y so I started going swimming an hour or so after dinner....that really got me through the first few wine-less evenings and now I'm used to it.

I really enjoy the weekend wine-with-dinner thing a lot more since it really IS wine with dinner (as opposed to wine with cooking, wine with horsd'oevres, wine with dinner then wine AFTER dinner!!) That's what I used to do! Finally come to the conclusion a glass of wine with a light dinner is different than big wine-soaked dinners.
