That Darned Scale
When I weigh in on my scale, I expect fluctuations from day to day. There are lots of reasons why my body fluids might be imbalanced, etc. However, somehow in my move from home to school, my scale lost a little rubber bit out of one of the legs (it has one little leg on each corner), so now it wobbles. I tried to correct this wobble, but to no avail. The wobble is causing my $80 HoMedics scale to read differently every time I step on it. Today, I was 156.6, 155.6, 155.0 and 154.0...all within seconds of the previous weight!
So...I'm a little frustrated that my pricey, attractive digital scale is now rendered useless. Can anyone reccomend a scale that I can pick up at WalMart or Target that is accurate (I prefer digital) and not overly expensive? I went the expensive route and was undone in 6 months because of a little rubber thing going missing! |
Could you maybe contact the company that made the scale and ask for a replacement rubber thingy?
I can't really recommend a good one from Walmart or target because all the ones i've gotten from there have been crappy. I've heard people say good things about Taylor scales, but they've never done well for me. |
I have a Tanita scale which also is relatively expensive.
But you can't really blame the scale--you need to have a replacement for the rubber foot you lost. No scale will weight correctly if it's not level--whether cheap or expensive. What a drag that you lost the foot! :( But I agree with LeedaRenee--see if you can get the company to send you a replacement. The Tanita has plastic molded feet that can't come off, BTW. Jay |
Yeah... before you go out and buy a completely new scale I would suggest contacting the company and seeing if they can send you a replacement rubber leg... they probally do have some in stock in case they get lost etc.
Other than that... I bought a Taylor digital from Wal-mart a couple of months ago and have had no problems... and it wasn't that expensive... I think maybe $30?? Good Luck hun! |
Thanks, all. I just sent out an e-mail to HoMedics' customer service people. The weird thing is, it isn't the entire leg that's missing. There's a little rubber bit inside of each leg that's missing. It's strange. I'm hoping that they can get back to me about it soon.
I actually really liked this scale--I've had it since January and it's always been accurate. It gives a H20 %, Basal Metabolic Rate reading and a Fat % reading. I've never put too much stock in those other new fangled bits, but as far as tracking my weight loss, it's been consistent. I'm just sad that one little piece is throwing it off. *crosses fingers* Here's hopin'! |
Oh I hate scales. i am so paranoid that each time I weigh, it is off and I am just fooling myself with false results. I hope mine isn't too off cause it sure would be dissapointing. I hope you get the company to fix it.

I got one of the Weight Watchers scales from Wal-Mart (about $30, I think). It seems to work pretty well.

If the company can't help you, could you rip the other 3 rubber bits off the other legs? I have a Tanita that I really like. I found it on clearance for $35.
