Counseling??
Anyone "been there, done that" for eating disorders, issues, etc.??
I've tried the diet/lifestyle change/nutritionist route -- but I really think with my far reaching issues, counseling might be my best bet. Anyone have any experience they wouldn't mind sharing? I did see a wonderful psychologist years ago -- I was actually 80 pounds lighter then -- thinking of trying him again. |
I'm doing counseling right now although not for an eating disorder but I have been finding that I don't eat emotionally very much at all now that I actually have someone that is OBJECTIVE to talk to about all of my stress and get good suggestions on what to do for my problems and encouragement. And I actually feel like doing stuff and being on my feet and actually exercising. So I'd go for it definitely especially if you liked your doctor that you had in the past!

You can go back to that person you saw a few years ago and have them recommend an eating disorder specialist. I really think it is important that you see someone who specializes in these issues. This is what I did when I found my counselor, and it worked out great.

Odd I should come across this, went to therapy this morning..to end it.
I've had 7 sessions at 1 hour each for depression etc, but it does nothing. I'm exactly the same as I was at the start, except considering a different career to "therapist", because I can see its trash. Well..trash for me. Maybe I'll try someone else. emily xxx |
Hey Cousin,
It's like anything else--it's not a magic wand. Also, some therapists are better than others. Don't decide the whole field is a waste of time based on one experience, is all I would say. Jay |
I have BTDT for therapy with an eating disorder. It helped a lot, and really opened my eyes when she classified it as an "addicting behavior," such as alcoholism or an impulse behavior.
That said, I have also seen 4 different therapists for help with OCD. All were ok, until I found my current therapist and she is totally awesome. Sometimes, you have to test-drive therapists to find the right one for you. So if you don't find the right one the first time, don't get discouraged...try again until you find someone you can connect with and you truly feel can help you. |
True and logical, I was just hacked off this morning
