Need to regain my willpower
 
I have been in a depression. I've gain weight since acquiring some stress related illnesses. I've basically given up on everything: finding the right med for the illnesses, even trying to eat right even though I know how, etc. The only thing I am doing right is exercising a good amount on a regular basis. I have basically no willpower is what it comes down to. I know I shouldn't eat that extra roll with dinner or have a second helping of noodles but I do anyway. I'm my own worst enemy on this. How can I regain the control??

I don't particularly agree with "willpower" -- I kind of think that sounds like some great super hero strength will come over us and take control. I think it's little steps and changes that have to occur that put us on the right track. I am constantly waiting for the "right moment" when "the stars align" and I can easily control myself and lose weight -- I think I decided today that is not going to happen (after I at allt he donuts, finished up a bowl of dip and pretzels) and now I feel like crap!!

When you feel like eating extra at dinner, call the game and get up from the table. I've even started scrapping all the leftovers into one big bowl before I leave the table, to stop me from finishing anything that makes it way back to the kitchen.

You can do this -- 100's of people on here have. Think of all the things in your life you've strived at and try to figure out how you made those happen.

There are going to be good and bad days, I'm just working toward having more good than bad :D

It seems you DO have some willpower if you can make yourself exercise regularly! I haven't done that since I started my weightlosss journey LOL.
Babe, we ALL go through rough patches, and some of us do have to deal with depression. I totally understand that feeling of hopelessness. But you HAVE to fight through it. Don't give in to it. You have FREEWILL. Who needs willpower? You are in charge of your destiny. Do what you want to do! If your goal is truly weightloss, pass up that extra roll! You can do this!!!

I love that "Do what you want to do", and your sig line too!. Great attitude!
I remember when I was at my worst, stopping at not 1 but 2 fast food places on the way home and one day I was getting off the freeway and I thought I wanted to treat myself to something and then I realized that NOT stopping for crap would be the best way to 'treat' myself.
Bassetbabe - I know it's tiring, I've been in and out of that state myself ~ you KNOW you have 'it' in you. Think positive about yourself and your abilities! ...Whether you believe it or not! ..."fake it 'til you make it" and eventually you will!:hug:

Hey bassetbabe,

Good comments from the other posters! I saw this saying in someone's sig on 3FC: "Failure is giving up what you want most for what you want now."

Every time you reach for those seconds, remind yourself of what you want most. Is it really another roll? Is it really more noodles? That might make it easier to resist. I know it's hard... but you know, it will get easier the more you practice it. Just take those small steps. :yes:

Thanks everyone, I really do appreciate all the word of support and advice. Its just mind over matter right. Gotta think myself out of these things.

Only reason I can stay motivated to exercise is that it also helps my anxiety and depression. So its kinda part of a prescription so to speak LOL. Thanks again everyone. Maybe I need to find a new hobby to distract myself from eating when I'm bored (probably the main culprit of grabbing those seconds or an extra roll ;) )

Most of us find consistent exercise to be the hardest part so I think you're well ahead of the game. You throw in some better food choices and you will see results very quickly.

Most importantly, keep looking for the right medication. There's a lot of trial and error there but you'll find the right one.
