stupid ~ QUITTER ~ proud

Today I am celebrating 10 YEARS of being :smoking: SMOKE :smoking: FREE! :carrot:

I smoked from the time I was 16 years old until I was 43...finally after so many stupid years of it I quit! Not one cigarette OR desire to have one in 10 years NOT ONE! I am proud of myself today :)

Tomorrow will be the 10th anniversary of my first 5k! My wife and daughter walked it with me...:snail: slowly :snail:...because of me, my son ran it and came beack to walk the last 2 miles with us, they helped me through it...I was on my way. We have done so many since then I couldn't begin to count them. If I hadn't quit smoking I am not sure if I would still be here BUT I am sure I wouldn't be able to even go watch them.

I did not gain weight from quitting smoking...I put on my extra pounds from over eating BAD foods and from starting drinking beer, again about 5 years ago, after not drinking alcohol for 18 years....stupid! Working on cutting that one down a little as we speak ;)

Now off to the treadmill.....................:)

WOW, that is SUPER!!!! CONGRATULATIONS!
I have a lot of respect for people who can kick a bad habit. That is wonderful.

I personally have never smoked so I can not say I "understand" but I do know it must be hard, so a great big CONGRATS!!!!!

That's so fantastic! i've been smoke free for about a month now and it's SOOOO hard! i solute you for 10 years, i only hope i can make it that long!

Congrats! It's an amazing accomplishment!

I'm trying to work up the motivation to quit...BF wants to quit soon and I, well, I just don't. I tend to believe that, like losing weight, quitting smoking is something you can't do until you really want to...The trouble is that in my entire life as a smoker, that impulse has only come over me once, and I lasted less than a month and it was about 5 years ago. Argh. I'm getting too old to smoke. Women who are soon to turn 32 really need to be quitting smoking.

The horror! The horror!

I have to tell you, just *thinking* about quitting smoking makes my pulse race and mild panic set in. It's pretty awful.

Well done, you! :D

That's a wonderful accomplishment! Congrats on your smoke free anniversary!
:bravo:

woo hoo, that is awesome! to me, it seems like years ago, but i quit about 4 months ago without one look back. So it's good to see someone so far ahead in time quit that has excelled!

Congratulations! I'm on my 2nd year as a "smoke free" person. It was definitely hard to quit, but so very worth it! Have you ever added up how much money you've saved? Ten years worth has got to be a fortune!

alinnell 08-14-2007 07:21 PM

Way to go Gary!!!

I've been mostly smoke free myself for 17 or so years, but I have to admit that for at least 10 of those 17 years I was still a social smoker. You know, we all head to the bar and the next thing you know I'm bumming a smoke off of someone. When DH and I would go on a cruise, we'd buy a carton and smoke the whole thing and once we got off the ship, we'd stop again. I think it has only been the last 4 or 5 years that I have finally lost the craving. It is a hard thing to do!

Congratulations!

It sounds like 10 years ago, you really made a committment to be a healthier person. Congrats on 10 smoke-free years!

EZMONEY 08-15-2007 08:09 AM

Thank all of you so much for the kind words! That is what is so wonderful here, the encouragement.

For those of you that have quit I congratulate you! :carrot: Obviously I know how hard it is.

For those that want to and haven't yet you can PM me at anytime and I will tell you some of the things that made it easier for me.

Today is the 10th Anniversary of my first 5K :carrot: I have done many since, even a marathon. If I was still smoking I would never have been able to.

Thank you all! :)
