Difficulty with finding Recipes
 
Hey all.. I'm trying to find recipes for healthy things like beans and lentils and coucous. What are some of the websites you go to for free recipes? I've already signed up for allrecipes.com. Just wanted to hear some new suggestions and maybe there's some out there I haven't found.

Hey brit,

We do have a big Foods section here on 3FC-- go to the Main Page on 3FC, and click the Foods tab. You'll see a Recipes section. And, in the Forums we have a big foods section as well with a forum that includes member recipes.

I like RecipeZaar. They have LOTS of recipes. I can't guarantee they are all healthy, but just about any recipe can be tweaked to become healthier by substituting certain ingredients. What I really love about this site is that you can search by ingredient, so if you've got something funky sitting in your cupboard that you're just dying to use up, you can search only for recipes that include that item.

I get Cooking Light magazine which I love! They also have tons of reipces on their site cookinglight.com, it also gives you nutritional information at the bottom of the recipe!

Hi there! Go to the Cooking Light website (great magazine!) and look towards the right-hand side of the page under "What's New?" -- they've partnered with MyRecipes dot com, which you can search for lots of good recipes. Apparently, that recipe website has joined with other mags like Health and Southern Living, both of which I subscribe to and have outstanding recipes. Hope this helps!

I like to use allrecipes. They have a healthy living section that breaks down by courses or a particular style of eating (low fat, low cal, low carb etc.). There are also reviews so if there is too much or not enough of an ingredient in a recipe, it usually says in the reviews...you probably know this though if you signed up for the website. :D They also have a vegetarian section that has a lot of recipes involving lentils, couscous etc., a lot of them are lowfat/low cal or can be made so.

The Cooking Light website and magazine for sure. They're the best. I use the Enhanced Search to restrict my recipe searches to Cooking Light and Sunset. Southern Living recipes tend to be anti-diet recipes :)

I also use epicurious.com fairly often. They have lovely food.

I like that I can cut and paste it into calorie-count.com and come up with whether or not I need to tweak the servings. They have an Indian dal recipe that is crazy yummy, plus they have a bagel recipe for bread machine that rocks! I have tried a few other things, but I cannot remember what off the top of my head. I am making the chana masala featured on the front tomorrow.

Ok, here is a link to probably the best cookbooks for lentils that I have found:

Believe it or not, they are two cookbooks from the Saskatchewan Pulse Grower's Association (pulse = legume, bean...). The recipes use REAL FOOD that ANYONE can find in their grocery store, and each recipe has a complete detail of the calories, fat, carbs, protein, and nutrients per serving. The recipes are really good, too!
I have used my book for years now, and never get tired of lentil-sausage stew, or hot tamale pie!
Love it!
