Help! Party Sat night.....

  • We are having a surprise party for my BIL on Sat night and I kinda wanna drink with everyone else. I barely ever drink and when I do it's sex on the beaches and I know now to stay away from them. What can I have though. Something low calorie. Just a few. I'm pretty picky so I'll need a few suggestions.

    I know I should stay away from it altogether...and I can...but I'd like to let loose and drink a few too. And a few is all it will be for sure. Someone has to stay sober and watch my kids.

    I'm trying to do great all week to plan a few extra cals that night. Deep down I REALLY want to see a much lower number on the scale...like 2 or 3 pounds at the least....by Sat morning so I feel even worse about drinking and I don't care if I do it or not. LOL!
  • Rum and diet coke. Gin and diet 7-up. Anything that tastes so nasty that you'll only drink one. (For me, that's any drink involving cheap tequila, thanks to associations with an unfortunate night of debauchery in college. YMMV.)

    If it's a social thing, ask the "bartender" to put a cherry in a plain diet coke or a twist of lime in a diet 7-up for you, and you can pretend it's a "real" drink. I know that abstractly, it's ridiculous to care what other people think you're drinking, but sometimes it's easier just to go with the flow, especially if it means avoiding being heckled by some immature git. Or, worse yet, a jealous relative who decides to get all passive aggressive about your weight loss.

  • I've heard that there is a Jack Daniel's that has 5 calories per serving and that with Diet Coke would be a really good choice....*smiles innocently*...then you could have more than a few...*horns tipping halo*
  • I find that when I drink, even one glass of wine, I am much more likely to overeat so for me its not the calories in the drink as much as the snacks.
  • I'm not worried about over eating. I've been doing pretty good for the past month so I think I can control that. I might just get a couple of Light Mike's Lemonades where I can read it on the lable. That way I don't have to guess at what's ok.

  • I find that light beer and wine tend to be low-cal alcoholic choices. Light beer has 90-100 calories per bottle, and wine is about 70 cals per 4 ounces I think. Somebody already mentioned the diet coke and rum (personally, I think it's gross). There's gin and diet tonic. Or a cosmo with light cranberry juice.

  • Generally, a clear liquor and no/low calorie mixer are recommended for those on "diets." Or even better, just plain shots of a clear liquor. Vodka, rum, and gin have about 60-70 calories per ounce but if you are not making the drink you don't really know how much alcohol is in it.

    I hate diet sodas so I always have light beer for about 100 calories per bottle.
  • I would honestly stay away from ANY mixed drink in a bar. This even includes a rum/Diet Coke. The reason is because in most bars, the shots are not measured. They do a guestimate pouring, so you could end up with an actual shot of liquor, or a double-depending on how much the bartender is paying attention, or how cute he thinks you are.

    You want something that you can control more. There is a light beer called Michelob Ultra that is 90 calories a bottle. It isn't the best tasting beer in the world, but it is one of the lowest calorie ones. Many bottled beers are around 12-140 calories each. (Bud Light, Coors Light, etc.)

    I have never heard of the Jack Daniels that is 5 calories. I don't understand how it could be, because the alcohol gives it calories...so the higher the proof, the more calories in alcohol it has. So, unless it was nothing more than a diet soda with a drop of Jack, it can't be 5 calories. (This goes for liquors like rum, vodka, gin, etc.)


    If the bar or club you are going to has wine, I would go for a white wine spritzer. Basically, half wine, half carbonated water. A glass of wine is about 100-120 calories on average, so if you made it into a spritzer, it would be about 60, since it is half carbonated water.

    Go for that, or the light beer in the bottle-and look up the specific calories for whichever one you are going to drink.
  • yeah, I was probably so totally wrong about the jack daniels....I know nothing. I haven't been drinking long if you can't tell.

    Yes, the alcohol, for those who don't know much about it-the calories are often a reflection of the strength of the liquor. If you have two bottles of vodka, one is 80 proof and the other 100 proof, the 80 proof will have less calories per oz.
  • The Light Mike's Lemonade would be my choice, I don't like beer and the Light Mike's are about the same calories as the light beer. You know what you are getting with each portion. I personally like the Light Mikes Cranberry Lemonade but it is harder to find.
