Aha! I knew it was a myth! ;P
I thought about making veggies with the Lean Cuisine but I eat a different dinner than my boyfriend and daughter and I made them jambalaya rice and didn't have a veggie that could go with both. I know I need to eat better for me foods, but that's scary too. I'm a really picky eater. I only like Ranch dressing. I bought fat free and I hate it, it tastes really sweet. Plus I'm addicting to sugary stuff so I have to at least have some pudding or something, hehe. I dunno. I'm trying to make it work. I've actually lowered my carbs because I saw you post about trying for 30/40/30 before, JayEll. I think I'm working my way to that a bit. I might throw in a protein shake - it'd put my calories where they "should" be. I just pretty much hate protein shakes. ~_~ I read that food journal thread and I only wish I had that much health food in my cabinets to be able to choose from so many different combinations of things. It's just so expensive! |

I disagree. But thats neither here nor there as far as I am concerned. I am trying to get out of the habit of eating so little in calories and in food. Its not good or healthy for anyone an I now see this. |

I don't like FF ranch either. What I do is buy the dry ranch mix and make it w/FF mayo and milk, or I buy the RF liquid dressing and dilute it with a teeny bit of milk. The diluted version isn't thick and gloppy like regular dressing, but you still get the full taste and you only need half of it. |
Well I guess someone needs to alert my WW leader to the myth. She was talking about it just a couple of weeks ago, and I've heard it from many others as well! Although I don't see why your metabolism couldn't slow down so much that you actually did gain weight :?: I need to go read that article thoroughly.

well i really think it is true. i have been one too eat one meal a day and that's it. maybe at first it might have caused me too lose weight maybe in my teens. i think after a while of doing this your body does slow down it gets very used too it. so now your not losing weight. your body is going to keep all the calories you do eat. and i know for me i was eating only at dinner time drinking coffee all day long to keep me going. not good habits no and i do feel a lot better now. but i know i am not skinny from eating one time a day. everyone is different i think you could find as many studies to show it is true too.

Interesting article, Kilketay. And also interesting that modkittn's WW leader hasn't gotten the clue!

the one week I was totally on plan and totally under my calories (by a lot) was the week I put on a lb.
even by what you posted, I still don't think you can say starvation mode is a myth..I always thought of it as slowing your metabolism way down and screwing any chance of losing weight.. not necessarily slowing it down so much you gain weight..kwim? If you just are not hungry (but not averse to eating at those times) I would suggest eating anyway..BUT if you are completely put off by the thought of food etc and nauseous or soemthing, thats different. If that is the case, maybe you could try "drinking " some of your calories, through milk or juices. If its just that you are not hungry enough, I know that when I was trying to get into the habit of eating less calorie dense foods, and 5x a day, it was hard. I was never hungry for snacks or meals. But I ate it anyway..and now my metabolism is way higher than before. After a week or so, you get used to the rhythm and you start to get hungry for each snack and meal :) If you are not eating 5x a day,, and still have trouble getting your calories in, it should be easy with things like almonds, peanut butter, olive oil, olives, avocado, etc. Have some cheese. |
need2lose: I don't really have any advice for you, but I'm in the same boat. A bizarre predicament, isn't it? If it isn't one way, it's the other.
