Using the scale as your measure of success can lead to disaster so I hope you have other goals to measure by. The scale should be on the bottom of the list. It's much more important to establish new eating habits that support your weight lose and maintenance and that you can see yourself attaining. The scale is fickle. I can weight 148 today and tomorrow weigh 152.5 because I ate a measly 1 ounce of pretzels (salt kills me). However, it was a victory for me to only eat 1 ounce instead of the whole bag. I know my weight will be back to 148 tomorrow because I'll drink extra water today. Expecting to lose 2 pounds every week as you get closer to your goal is not realistic either. The closer you are to goal, the slower the weight loss will be. Don't be in a rush - it takes time to learn new habits.

Good luck in your journey!

Some weeks you may lose more, but expecting to lose 2# a week is pretty difficult, especially as you get closer to goal because your weight loss will slow some.

I agree with the post above. Two pounds a week is very hard to sustain!! Especially as you get closer to goal. Your calorie needs will drop as you get skinnier, so you'll have to cut even farther back to lose that much weight. For example, at 124 pounds you might only need 1800 calories to sustain yourself. To lose two pounds a week from there, you'd have to cut back 1000 calories a day to 800 calories ... not easy to sustain and probably not healthy! The skinnier you get, you should expect slower weight loss.

Hey! Sabie1987 :welcome2:

Goals are great because they get you moving in the right direction. But, actually meeting a goal in a set amount of time doesn't always work so well.

2 pounds a week is pretty hard for most folks when they are losing weight in a HEALTHY way. A better way to approach this would be with a program (like FitDay) where you can decide how much weight you want to lose overall--say, 20 pounds in 3 months just as an example--and then let the program tell you how much you would need to eat (or not eat) to reach that goal.

Or, you could consider joining a program--like Weight Watchers--where you have a weekly check-in to help you stay on track.

I agree with the other posters that the scale should not be all-important. Better eating habits, avoiding junk food, and getting in some physical activity are all good directions.

Tell us what your plan is, if you want some further suggestions. We're here to try and help.

Good luck!
Jay

Good luck to you! I aggree with other posters...even at my high weight...sometimes I don't break that 2 lb loss in a week mark..most of the time I do, but not always. It takes time for your body to adjust to exercise and the change in your eating. If you want to have a scale goal....say something like Jay said...20 lbs in 3 months or something like that or what you think might be realistic.

As you get to a lower weight I would encourage you to focus more on exercise and continuing to maintain healthy eating and eventually lbs will come off but not as quickly.

pretty much I just reiterated what everyone else said. :dizzy:

Good luck and we look forward to having you on the boards!
