Poo!
It is the most random thing I have ever asked about but... when I weight myself I had not changed since weighing myself 3 days ago and then I relaised that I have not had a poo since then.
I only started my diet 5 days ago. Is everything ok? And how often should you go ? Cora:o |
i havent "gone" either in a couple days and my weight has not changed either which is frustrating because you start to think its maybe "waste weight" that needs to be over with..
|
Your body is likely getting used to the changes you've made so far. I wouldn't worry too much. I think a once a day 'movement' is considered regular but everyone is different I guess. I eat a lot of fruits and veggies throught the course of the day so maybe that's the reason.
|
Yeah, once a day is considered "regular" as far as I'm aware... having backed up waste in your digestive tract can cause you to not lose weight. If you get desperate enough, you can try Miralax or Correctol... or just Dannon Activia. Isn't it funny how there are so many commercials for products fixing irregularity these days? Sometimes, I've considered getting a colonic because I heard it will rid some people of ten pounds or so...
|
Flax seed in your diet everyday will help with this... it's also very good for you!!! ;)
|
I have to concur that once a day is probably pretty normal. But i'm sure it will happen soon. But don't let it go more than a week for sure. I don't have much of a suggestion except for using some over the counter stuff to help if you can't on your own.
|
I go 1-2x a day, but I also eat lots of vegetables and fruits, drink a lot of water, and make sure that all of my carbs have a lot of fiber in them.
|
Cora, I wouldn't be too concerned unless this lasts a few more days (then I would say see a medical professional!). When you change your diet, this can happen. What are you eating and drinking?
I go a couple times a day, but then again, I eat about twice the RDA of fiber daily! |
I've also noticed that I go less when I'm dieting, but this really makes perfect sense - when you eat less, your body consumes a higher proportion of it, and there is less waste. It may take more time to build up enough that you need to "go" - and that certainly will affect weight a bit.

Im eating loads of fruit and vedge I ate some before but now I am much more aware many things I am eating are fresh egg, potato, fish ect...
And all I drink is water I occationaly have the PJ smoothies |
Coral,
you might want to keep track of your fiber and water intakes also. I average 40 grams+, of healthy fiber daily and at least 10-12 glasses of water. I can go many times a day. At least 2-3 per day. I found the Fish oil and flax oil also made a difference. You can track you fiber, etc. on Fitday.com To much fiber and not enough water will cause the same problem. |
NO NO NO!!!
I am unofficially the 'poo' expert - :D - and believe me, there is no real 'normal'. I have this straight from my doctor. Some people will have a movement every day - lucky them! I'm lucky if I go twice a week, and this is still normal. Evidently, the body can be 'regulated' with fiber, but what is 'regular' for one person may not be what is considered 'regular' for another. For a long time, I figured there must be something wrong with my innards (!), but in fact, each to his own. Apparently, you should only be concerned if you go seven days without a movement, or have any pain (not bloating, but actually abdominal pain) in which case there could be a blockage which needs a little 'push' via Castor oil or a doctor's laxative. Hope that's helpful - from the 'Queen of Poop'!! :D Heather |
But obviously Cora normally goes more often, or she wouldn't be asking about it. What's your normal frequency?
Just make sure you're eating lots of fiber and drinking lots of water and doing some sort of exercise every day, and things should move along eventually. If you're on a low-carb diet, you might need to take a fiber supplement since it can be hard for some people to get enough fiber on a diet that avoids carbs. |
Try Fiber One or All Bran.
|
More often than this bout 3 times a week just makes me wonder because my brother can go 4 times a day and he eats junk food
|
It is pretty common for your system to change when you change your diet. As long as you are drinking plenty of water and eating plenty of fiber I would not worry about it unless you go more than a week or are in pain.
If you have drastically changed your fiber intake it can actually SLOW you down as much as it can speed you up. Too much fiber with not enough water can cause problems I would not try anything to resolve it except making sure you are drinking enough water. Adding fiber such as metamucil, allbran etc can make it worse and cause horrendous gas pains if the issue is that your body is simply trying to readjust to your new way of eating. Give it time, and if your body used to be a once a dayer, you will likely return to that status as your system gets used to the new food. |
Your brothers body obviously wants to get rid of the junk food.

boys poop!

And like bargoo said, his body obviously wants to get rid of the junk food. haha. |
Uh oh Heather, you may be the Queen of Poop, but I'm the Goddess of Crap! Maybe we should get together and chat sometime. ;) (My husband would like it if I talked to someone else about such matters).
I have a question for anyone really, but is Activia really much better than regular yogurt in keeping you regular? I know that yogurt has always made my digestion better. |
 Check out the "Activia" thread in the UK forum :o

My hubby and I have this conversation a lot. He can go 3x a day, where I only go every other day, or every 3 days. It's very odd for me to go every day. But I do also believe it adds weight to me, what can you do??
I've joked about giving myself an enema before I weigh in. |
Hey Cora,
I had the very same problemo when I started dieting. When I was eating junk food I could easily go once or twice a day - a long came the life style change and I'm lucky to go every other day or two. At the begining of my lifestyle change I was quite worried so I went and bought some chocolate laxatives. Especially because I would start having the sensation of "i need to go" and then not able to (no guys I wasn't constipated lol). SO I would take a laxative when I went to bed (to make sure that it wouldnt effect the nutrients I was trying to get out of my dinner) and then have to go when I wake up. I've now realised exactly what improbable said above and that i'm not eating as much food and so I don't need to "go" as often! Occasionally I still take a chocolate laxative (once a week... or fortnight) but only if it's got to the point that I'm bloated. I can't seem to get enough fibre in my diet!! That said - when I'm drinking loads of water, even if I haven't gone for a couple of days I don't get bloated because everything is pushing, pulling and sucking in the right direction lol. |
