Quick (dumb) question HELPPP!!!!!

Hey ladies...
ok please tell me if this is true:

is it true that if you weigh yourself right after a work out.. it is HIGHER than it really is? please PLEASE tell me thats true LOL!

I swore to myself I wouldnt re-weigh myself until 1 full week at the gym (which would be this coming tues) but i felt so great .. i just couldnt resist and weighed myself today.. so someone please tell me my eyes were lying or something.. because there is NO way in heck that I gained 10lbs of muscle in 4 days LOL! PLEASE!

We actually spoke about this at my last ww meeting, and my leader insists that you do weigh more right after a workout. She suggested waiting at least 2 hours after you've finished your workout to weigh. Hope this helps!

Are you very sore?? I find that I weigh more when I am really sore because my body is retaining lots of fluids to help repair those sore muscles. I have seen at least 5 pounds more on days when I am really sore.

lumi - You are correct! When your muscles are sore, you do retain more water. Also, if you use something like Aleve to help those muscles, don't forget there is sodium in that medicine, so you should drink some extra water!

Personally, I walk/jog as my main form of exercise. And I sweat.... A LOT. So I find that I actually weigh LESS afterwards because I sweat out so much water hahaha :)

Fluid levels can vary a lot, and a workout can affect that. I think the most accurate weight is the one first thing in the morning, before you eat or drink anything. So don't panic! If you've seen a big fluctuation, it's water weight!

I LOVE you guys! thank you so much! i dont feel so bad now LOL!
PHEW! I mean jeez everytime i "start" doing this... I lose atleast 5lbs in the first week.. and here i am busting my hump and gain 10? LOL thank god for you ladies.. keeping me off the edge! (edge of the cookie jar that is lol!)

:O)

Also what time are you working out?! because if you have a days worth of food and water in your system, your also going to weigh more!! I always weigh on a monday morning after a visit to the bathroom and before i eat anything to get a true reading!

I sure hope this to be true myself- I lifted weights and took a 1hr spinning class this AM and during that time I not only sweated but downed 2 16.9 Fl OZ of H2O and when I got home and got on the scale I was not to happy  !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Guess just gonna wait and see what it says tomorrow AM.:dizzy:

Rules for weighing by JayEll (not to be confused with expert opinion ;) )

1. Always weigh at the same time of day.
2. Always weigh on the same scale while wearing the same or similar clothes if possible (or no clothes if that's how you started).
3. Expect variation. Two to three pounds variation isn't unusual due to mystery factors (salty foods, exercise, time of month for women). And if you are heavier, you can see even more variation.
4. Don't weigh too often or the variations will drive you insane! :dizzy:

As for me, I always weigh LESS after my workout. I think I must evaporate...

Good luck!

Jay
