Anybody Sit on an Exercise Ball at the Computer?

Can't really word my question any better than that! ;)

I have an exercise ball that gets NO use... a friend suggested I replace my computer chair with said ball... of course she may just want to see me fall on my butt! :D

Anybody doing this??

Heather :)

I have one at home, but haven't used it for a computer chair (yet). Not regularly, anyway. I've sat on it for an hour or two at a time, though. I guess it takes a little while to build up to using it for 8 hours at a stretch, but it's supposed to be great for back problems.

I can't imagine sitting on my ball while i'm on the computer. but maybe i should give it a try. any ideas which part of the body this would be helping??

Okay - I found this: http://www.gearfire.net/10-reasons-t...as-your-chair/

Well, I'm going to try it! :D

No, but now that you've mentioned it, it's an idea to keep in mind. :D I'll need to buy new chairs when I get to live in my new place this summer anyway... so I might as well try to get an exercise ball in lieu of a chair, if it's not too expensive.

It's great for your core - abs & back. I don't do it 'cause my boss won't let me. Silly boss.

Been doing it for 2 years at home & about a year in my office at work - I love it! Since I do actual exercise on the ball at home too I can't be certain if just sitting on the ball was any help in toning my abs/hips/thighs/butt, but at the very least it helps me maintain good back posture. I can also do some light toning exercises while sitting on it and typing away (ab rolls, quad tighteners, etc.)

Of course, one thing to watch for is wear & tear on the ball -- I popped the one I had at home recently and had to replace it. But hey, $10 is cheap for a "computer chair" and exercise equipment.

I did it while pregnant with my DD - helps get the babe into proper position. :)

I should bring it back out and use it all the time. :)

Okay - got mine pumped up and am on it now... will let you know I feel tomorrow :)

One of my coworkers once had one recommended to her to use at work by both the ergonomics department and her chiropractor. I'd imagine if you started calling out in pain he/she would let you use one.

Otherwise, show the boss the article in this link.

I'm thinking about bringing my exercise ball into the cube farm here, too.

OKAY I'm very sorry for this, but I have to be a dork and share one of my favorite tv show moments ever:

I do. I heard that if you replace your chair with the ball it burns tons of calories. I assume it works because if I'm on the computer for a while I get sore.

Okay! I HAVE to do this! I have a ball, and I sit here a lot... :)
THANKS for the suggestion!!!!

Treighsie 05-30-2007 08:25 PM

It's a bit low... should I get a bigger ball? Or a lower desk? LOL
