Do you reward yourself?

Kitkatbahr's post made me wonder what rewards you all have done.

For my first 10 pounds, I got a pedicure and got my hair highlighted.

For my second 10 (some of which is back, obviously), I got a proper bra fitting and new bras to lift my four-years-of-breastfeeding boobs off my smaller tummy. I can't tell you how happy a good bra can make you look and feel.

The ten after that, I am going to get a massage and another pedi.

At goal, I am getting new clothes and giving away/selling/throwing away anything that is a 12 or larger. It is a lot harder for me to go back there if I have nothing to wear.

In fact, I just inspired myself to go gather up all my fourteens and send them packing. Maybe while the baby sleeps this afternoon..

Share your rewards!

seranab 05-22-2007 09:49 AM

Well I've only lost 10 pounds but I bought myself three new dresses. One is this beautiful navy-blue... one is brown... and one is green (not as gross as they sound lol). They were worth every penny... but i've hit a plateua AGAIN having ONLY lost 10 pounds so I may take them back as a punishment lol.

boaterswife 05-22-2007 09:52 AM

Oh, do get rid of those clothes! I had no intention of keeping mine, but also wasn't willing to just dump them off at a charity so I finally got around to marking them all and put them in my MIL's garage sale this past Saturday. Not only are they out of my house so I cannot fall back on them as backup, but I made $315 towards a new wardrobe! I'm saving it all until I reach goal, so I can buy a bunch of new stuff all at once....a real shopping spree!!!

I haven't really done any rewards to date, but that upcoming shopping spree is going to be one of my ending rewards. There is also this fabulous bracelet that I've wanted for a while that I had decided I would purchase as a bravo to myself once I've reached goal and maintained for 6 weeks (so I'll be lifetime at WW).

Thinking about it now, maybe I did reward myself! About a month ago my kiddos wanted to go to the mall to get their ears pierced....DD14 wanted another set of holes in her ears, and DS17 asked if I would consider letting him have an earring. He shocked me with that one, but after discussion and setting parameters I agreed. Well, they both got pierced and the gal looked at me and said "I've still got one of the earrings here from your son's set, are you sure I can't pierce something for you? It's already paid for....." Shocking even myself I hopped in the chair and said sure! Pierce my cartiledge! I never would have had the self confidence to do that 80 pounds ago! DH was even surprised when we got home and his whole family had been pierced! LOL!

HeatherAngel 05-22-2007 10:17 AM

Around 25lbs lost, I bought some makeup -it wasn't a specific goal, though - LOL!

At 30lbs lost, I had a manicure and pedicure, and had my hair cut. It was blissful!

I don't have any other specific 'goals' planned, except that when I get under 200lbs (the MINUTE that scale reads 199.8!!) I am going to start horseback riding again - really looking forward to that! :)

maegdaeien 05-22-2007 10:41 AM

I don't really do rewards because I don't have much money (I'm currently putting myself through college), but I decided a few months ago that if I'm in the 150's by my sister's wedding I'll totally reward myself anyway! All the bridesmaids can pick out our own dresses (so long as we stick to a color scheme) and I'm going to get the most fabulous dress I can find, get my hair done, find perfect jewelry, get full spa treatments, etc. (I'll have to live off ramen noodles for quite a while after, but it'll be worth it!)

shananigans 05-22-2007 10:50 AM

What great rewards. I do a little something for myself now and then, but usually it’s work out clothes or new running shoes or the like. New bras will be an absolute necessity before too long, but I keep putting it off because they are so damned expensive! Maybe the 160 mark will be the “new bras” reward.

Kery 05-22-2007 11:05 AM

I got myself two cute clothes to celebrate the loss of that weight I had gained back during the past year. :D Of course, now I'm broke, but it was worth it.

If I can put enough money aside, I'm also going to get a digital camera. Probably for when I actually manage to break that %$£*§ 132 lbs. mark under which I haven't been since I was 12!

Beach Patrol 05-22-2007 11:26 AM

I don't really "do" the reward system, because I *reward* myself for no good reason all the time... I mean, I buy what I want, if I want a mani or pedi I just go get one, and I relax on the beach every weekend... the only "rewards" I can think of would be "food rewards"..... and usually that's not a good idea for me! So I don't reward because I don't know WHAT to reward with. :dizzy:

Anybody got'nee suggestions??? :^:

jenmonkey77 05-22-2007 12:08 PM

When I reach goal I'm planning on buying myself a Diane von Furstenburg wrap dress from Bloomingdales in Manhattan and then wearing it somewhere fabulous. :)

baffled111 05-22-2007 12:49 PM

I'm like Beach Patrol: I tend to spend money on bras and clothes and personal grooming whether I have earned a reward or not.

That said, when I reached goal a few weeks ago I bought a Heart Rate Monitor to keep me motivated at the gym. I love it! Even though I'm no longer trying to drop pounds, I can see, each day, that I'm getting fitter and fitter. It's really cool. :)

modkittn 05-22-2007 01:02 PM

I don't really do rewards either, but I've thought that maybe if I do it will be some motivation for me. Like "Maybe I won't buy this CD and I'll make myself wait until I reach my next 5 pound mark" but you know what, I'm pretty motivated to begin with so I end up just buying the CD and still meeting that next 5 pound goal haha :)

CarolynFL 05-22-2007 01:19 PM

I'm rewarding myself today with a massage. :) Not because of any milestone per se, but because I need one!

Beach Patrol 05-22-2007 02:27 PM

Oooh a massage!!! Now THAT'S a good reward!!!! :D

CarolynFL 05-22-2007 02:35 PM

amen, sistah! 2 1/2 hours till bliss time.

Glory87 05-22-2007 02:58 PM

I definitely used a system of rewards, because they really motivate me.

10 lbs - fancy sandals from Sundance Catalog
20 lbs - massage at a very expensive spa
30 lbs - I bought new clothes for a fun trip to New Orleans
40 lbs - fancy cut and color at an expensive salon before a trip to TX to see my mom
50 lbs - another massage at the same spa
goal - tattoo (4 traditional Chinese characters for perseverance)

I also did silly little rewards throughout my weight loss. For example, if I worked out all 5 days of a work week, I could order a skirt, etc.

lumifan4ever 05-22-2007 03:08 PM

I really never bought myself anything for reaching a goal, but i did print out a certicate when i reached 30 pounds lost. I also added a before and after pic with it. When i hit my next 30, i may do the same thing. As far as monetary rewards, my boyfriend says he'll help me buy new clothes when i reach my final goal. So that will be my final reward about 30 to 40 pounds from now.

Lynibeth 05-22-2007 05:06 PM

I've only lost 2lbs and I'm already celebrating :o I bought myself pjs and slippers.. But maybe I'm just looking for an excuse to buy something I don't know

That was one reason I started this thread. I think it is easy to reward with food. "I was good all week. Ben. Jerry. Come here, boys." I wanted us to think of ways to tell ourselves, "Awesome work" without sabotaging ourselves.

I need new jog bras. After I complete week three of the Cool Running program, I will get some.

emilyk 05-22-2007 05:21 PM

Here are my planned rewards.
25lbs (soon I hope!!): shopping trip for a few new items, especially bras!
50lb - massage
100lb - new tattoo
goal - new clothes and a TRIP TO GREECE. I've wanted to go forever, but I hate to travel being so fat AND I'll be darned if I'm going to a place with beautiful beaches and not swim/lie on the beach!!

I think the biggest reward of all will be being able to play with my kids on the floor or running around with them.

RidiculouslyAddicted 05-22-2007 05:24 PM

I rewarded myself for sticking with it for a month by getting a massage (which actually, technically, was my reward for being a nonsmoker for a year, but they just happened to coincide).

I rewarded myself for starting running by buying some wonderful, expensive running shoes.

A friend and I have a mutual reward (we're both 18 pounds away from goal right now): When we reach goal and maintain (BOTH of us), we'll go on a girls' weekend at her parents' cabin. Whoever reaches goal and maintains for two weeks first, gets her alcohol paid for by the other.

Also, when I hit goal, my sister promised to cut, color, and foil my hair for me (she's a hairdresser, and this will be around my birthday, hopefully, so it's a birthday gift from her).

ALSO when I hit goal (yes, I've got a lot planned!), I get to go SHOPPING! I'm not buying much at all as I move down the scale, because I kept most of my "skinny" clothes, but when I hit goal, my boyfriend has agreed that I can use some of his student loan $$ (we don't usually use it) to SHOP!!! I can't WAIT!!

Oh, and one more thing: When I've been working out CONSISTENTLY for ONE YEAR (I have 8 1/2 months left), my dad promised to buy me a one year membership at any health club I want in the city. Honestly, I'm more pumped about that than anything! And I think that fact alone speaks volumes about how far I've come!

cagesorwings 05-22-2007 07:16 PM

I am not sure about future/ultimate goal awards, but I imagine it will involve a new wardrobe and whatnot.
I did say, starting this plan, that I would stick to it for 21 days mandatory so that I could form the habit. Once I've gotten to 21 days, I think I'll go get a mani & pedi... hopefully I'll have my first paycheck from my summer job by then too :)
The 21 day mark actually is this Monday, but I did not really stay on plan this weekend (I was on a trip) so I am moving it to the 31st

becoming wisdom 05-22-2007 07:43 PM

We'll be going to Europe mid-August for a month, it's our first trip. I decided to do my best to lose weight (without hurting my health) beforehand, so in a way the trip will be my reward. In the meantime, when I reached 199 lbs, I bought myself some perfume, and also a few trinkets for a future "Japanese Garden" in back of the house. It's my first foray into backyard planning, as usually my DH gives altogether too much feedback about any such plans! So, I'm rewarding myself with a new role in having equal say about our home environment.... Like becoming healthy, s'about time!

Greece is lovely. I may move that into my rewards column too. Maybe after two years of maintaining...

FresnoBeeDude 05-22-2007 09:13 PM

Mine isn't a goal based on weight loss, it is more based on dropping pants size. When I noticed my size 50 pants (which I just learned I was at a 64" when I first started last year) were fitting rather loosely, I decided to try on a pair of 48's that I had tucked away. The 48's fit nicely, so with the help of a pre-approved credit card, I went on a shopping spree at K-mart, and bought a whole new wardrobe (about $150). Got rid of all those sweats, except for the couple I kept for working out in. I did notice there was alot nicer stuff in size 44's. I doubt that I will splurge when I reach that milestone, but I can see myself buying a new outfit. When I can fit into a 42", I am buying me some sexy underwear for myself

Kery 05-23-2007 12:53 AM

Come to think of it, a tattoo is in order as well for me, but only when I am at goal, because this will let me more time to think thoroughly about it. I sure don't want something random, it must have some kind of meaning for me (even if in the end, it means having quite a classical pattern tattooed). Not to mention that I don't want to have it just anywhere, nor completely hidden. Isn't that complicated. :)

pinupdreams 05-23-2007 01:39 AM

i havent really been rewarding myself, i guess seeing my weight drop on the scale is a reward on its own for me. ;)

My partner and I plan to quit smoking later this year. When we do, we're going to set aside all the money we spend on cigarettes (A LOT--I smoke 2 packs a day, and he smokes 1) and put it towards a trip to Greece next summer. I'm going to need A LOT more motivation to quit smoking than I ever needed to lose weight. I'm not convinced that quitting comes with its own rewards :)

JayEll 05-23-2007 07:39 AM

Hey baffled, the rewards of quitting smoking are not as obvious as those for weight loss--and quitting is just HARD! But, it is completely worth it! Do whatever you have to do to quit when the time comes, as long as it does not involve food. ;)

As for rewards--I am my own reward, every day! I haven't thought about what else to add as a token. Perhaps having new, smaller clothes could be a reward. Mostly, though, I already have so many benefits from losing weight that I don't feel like I need a reward! :D

Nope! I recommend my tattoo location. It's on my back, down the spine, beginning about 1 inch below a normal shirt collar and is about 3.5 inches long. It is very easy to hide or show, depending on mood!

For weight loss, I know Chinese character tattoos are "trendy" - but I really recommend this site:

http://www.oneaday.org/archives.html Just a note - a friend of mine who speaks Chinese likes the proverbs but says the font is "hideous" like a typewriter, there are some beautiful fonts available online!

Some of these proverbs are so beautiful, and so fitting. Mine is no longer listed ("dripping water can eat through stone") but I always liked these:

Heaven and Earth have changed their position, meaning "tremendous change"

To be happy in heart like flowers in full bloom - meaning "wild with joy"

To dance for joy - meaning "great excitement and joy following success"

Turn over a new leaf

Grind an iron rod into a needle - meaning "perseverance makes anything possible"

khep 05-23-2007 11:20 AM

I haven't been rewarding myself for mini-goals, or thinking to in the future, but I have been pondering a new tattoo and some dread extensions when I lose 100 lbs and then meet goal *^__^* I guess it depends on if I have the money to do it by then, but in the meantime I know I'll deserve it :)

Decade 05-23-2007 11:57 AM

I haven't really thought specifically about rewards, but yes the thought has crossed my mind a time or two. I plan at 25 lbs to buy a new pair of jeans. At 10 lbs, I already have trouble keeping these jeans I'm wearing up LOL

Beach Patrol 05-23-2007 01:05 PM

Re: the tattoo....

I have three (so far) & I just wanted to add that the best tattoo you can get is one that is special drawn - that way it won't be something that any or everybody will have.

This is my last one - pic is a bit small, but....

http://img62.imageshack.us/img62/3733/beachysun2hz6.jpg

It was special drawn for me and my best friend (mine is on my right upper arm & her's is on her right shoulder blade). We are sun lovers, and we love to hit the beach together - so it had to be a sun. The sun is "female" because we are girly-girls... meaning we love to buy shoes & jewelry & wear make-up & do our hair & get pedi's & mani's.... We wink at each other all the time for no good reason! - so we had her drawn winking. And the chinese symbols beneath the sun mean "eternal friend".

...so what I'm saying is... get something that MEANS SOMETHING to you.

Kery 05-23-2007 02:08 PM

Ohh, thanks for the tattoo suggestions. :) Yes, it indeed has to mean something, else what would be the point. Hm, maybe I should draw something myself... the day I actually find a good idea.

onthetee 05-23-2007 09:38 PM

There are some really great books with portrayals of body art out there. I am sure they would be inspiring.
