Bathing Suit Season

OK.. so I went to get a bathing suit for my daughter and I. Well for her .. not a problem. For me... I was aggravated.. bathing suits in my size were two piece. I haved a god aweful ugly stomach. Now I finally found a tankini that I really liked and it covers my belly. I didnt want to a full piece and I cant wear a bikini. Anyone else having a problem with your perceived size? Its like "oh, I wear an 8 I MUST need a bikini or a icky momish one piece." I know there are sexy one piece bathing suits but more often than not they are from vicki secret and I am not trying to spend alot on a suit to take my daughter to the neighborhood pool :) I would rather get a pedicure or something lol

Janie Canuck 05-16-2007 11:02 AM

I'm a one-piece girl, but I feel your pain. I found a couple I really like last year at Land's End - check their website. The great thing is that they've got tons of mix-and-match tops and bottoms, so you can pick the styles that work the best on you.

JayEll 05-16-2007 11:30 AM

I'll check that out myself, Janie--I need a new suit. (I'm a one-piece girl too.)

greeneggsandtam 05-16-2007 11:34 AM

I'm a one piecer too! I've tried these accursed tankini's. They don't work for me. I'm large chested and high waisted so they seem to cut me in half and make my body look crazily short and wide. Luckily I found a black one pc. cut super low and it makes my body look longer. It wasn't expensive either - Winners.

ugggg....i hate bathing suit time. I bought my suit early in the season this year ( a black and white tankini), but putting it on the other day and taking a picture in it, i don't like it so much. I too hate my stomach. it sticks out waaaaayyyy too far. my thighs are like thunderous masses of jello. I hate bathing suit season. I am hoping that maybe by mid-suit season, maybe i'll have to go buy a new one. I do have a 2 peice bikini i bought last year just to tan in private at home. maybe i'll be able to firm up for it by the end of the season. In all honesty though, i prefer my one peice suit that is made like a dress. I think it is the most flattering on me. Maybe i just was in too big of a hurry to buy a suit that i really didn't try on enough different styles. Oh well...there's always end of the season or next year!!!

BabyBrownEyes 05-16-2007 12:13 PM

ahhhh bathing suit season. I will NOT...I reapeat..NOT be wearing a bathing suit this year..so you guys don't have to worry about shading your eyes when I walk by. LOL

When I lost weight before I bought a tankini and I was really bummed because I have a long torso and it didn't fit me like it was supposed to. I too, even when I was smaller, liked the one pieces with skirts...I feel girly in them. :) Although I WOULD like to where a bikini some day...I think I'll save it for tanning. :)

Ready2ShedLBS 05-16-2007 03:46 PM

for me the full piece with the skirts built in to them just scream * I am uncomfortable with my body. The suit that I have is a halter top and boy shorts. I like it. I still think I am fat though. Ugh

Janie Canuck 05-16-2007 04:29 PM

The boy shorts can be big trouble though, depending on your build. I have ice-cream cone shaped thighs, no matter how thin I am, and those boy-shorts always cut across at the widest part of my thigh. Talk about drawing attention to a bad feature! I have friends who love them, and I like the idea of having a little more rear coverage, but they are just too unflattering to consider on me.

sockmonkey70 05-16-2007 04:34 PM

The boy shorts always make me look like I have chronic camel toe.

Janie Canuck 05-16-2007 04:42 PM

OK, I have to ask.... what the dickens is "camel toe"??

baffled111 05-16-2007 05:03 PM

Ummm, camel toe is when the crotch of your pants is pulled too high and you can see the outline of your girly-bits through your pants. *Not* attractive! Google it for more info :)

I look dreadful in boyshorts too. It's too bad because I think they're cute and the butt coverage is nice. I think I would have to lose at least 10 or 15 pounds before they looked anything other than revolting on me (even without camel toe!)

707Goddess 05-16-2007 05:03 PM

:lol3: :lol3: sorry i had to laugh now for camel toe it is when the middle seam rides up your hoo hoo and your 2 down stairs lips take on the shape of a camel toe

707Goddess 05-16-2007 05:04 PM

sorry we were posting at the same time

FitMomEB 05-16-2007 09:00 PM

Personally, I always shop right about now for bathing suits on Victoria's Secret, because that's when theyhave sales. I got a really gorgeous tankini for 50-something dollars - I could match the top I wanted in the pattern I wanted with the bottom I wanted in the pattern/color I wanted. I love that because I can pick the shapes that work best with my body.

My family lives in Sardinia (Italy) so tat's where we spend out summer, and since I'll be there on the beach for 2 weeks straight I need something that makes me feel a little better about myself. I'm already overweight, I really don't need an unflattering bathing suit :^:

Janie Canuck 05-16-2007 09:27 PM

:o :o I had to ask....quel embarrassment!!:o :o

zenor77 05-16-2007 09:40 PM

I haven't bought a bathing suit in YEARS! Perhaps when I'm down to my goal I'll start looking for one, but honestly I shun the sun whenever possible (I'm really pale and burn easily.) I like the idea of a tankini, but somehow I doubt it'd work for my body (long torso with a high waist~yes it's odd.) So I imagine I'll be a one piece gal.

I agree on the boy shorts. Cute, but if you have chunky thighs (and I do) very unflattering.

Christine in NJ 05-16-2007 09:45 PM

I was always a one-piece girl, but now that I'm dropped down a bit, the only way to go was a tankini. That way I could buy bottoms that fit and a top that fit, and not try to worry about one suit for both. Occasionally, if I move one way or the other, you can see a tiny glimpse of my white belly, so I'll need to work on that, but overall I'm please. I'm going to wear it for the first time this weekend. Ok, it is only to sunbathe in the backyard, but it counts!

jellydisney 05-17-2007 07:55 AM

Ugh I hate bathing suits. Because essentially, we're all practically naked when we wear bathing suits. So of course nobody is going to be happy with how they look. I wish bathing suits weren't so skimpy and poorly constructed. Can we go back to the 50's when the bathing suits were all one-pieces with built in corsets and lots of rear coverage?

And I ditto the camel toe thing with the boy shorts. Boy shorts never look right on me. I have short chunky thighs, and the back always rides up. The one time I bought a pair I was constantly tugging on them.

JayEll 05-17-2007 08:54 AM

My question is, how come the boys wearing the boy shorts don't have ummmm a problem? ;) I mean, you'd think they would bind... Or do they wear them around their hips.

They do still make some swimsuits with "control panels" and such. You just have to read between the lines and try some. No one likes the word "corset" these days.

I'm still looking around myself...

Jay

Janny O 05-17-2007 09:59 AM

It's so doggone blasted hot in Az that I live in my pool in the summertime. I think fashion goes out of the window when it's a 120 degrees. I'm lucky tho-no ones cares what anyone looks like when it's that hot!!!!.

Ready2ShedLBS 05-17-2007 10:31 AM

I have bigger thighs, but I am an hour glass shape. I get the shorts part big enough to wear them comfortably, my legs are "bigger" but fairly toned (muscular chicky here)

I am so down for the b.s with the corsets lol Im going to the beach this weekend and while I am absolutely repulsed by the ocean, I will have to be ok with my suit so that I can fry on the beach. Good thing the beach is only like 20 mins.. away because Im not a fan of sand, or nasty brown salt water.. ugh... and I will be able to get it off me a.s.a.p. The things I do for my family!

FresnoBeeDude 05-17-2007 01:07 PM

Well, I am going to agree with everyone here. But regardless on how I look (48" waist, with alot of excessive skin, and the right thigh larger then the left), I am so determined to do water aerobics at the YMCA starting next month. I found a pair of XL trunks that barely fit, but I am just so determined to lose this damn weight. I remember as a kid swimming was the best form of exercise and weight loss. When I jump in that pool (it will be a helluva splash, by the way), I don't care what anyone thinks of me. I am doing this for myself, and no one else

Beach Patrol 05-17-2007 01:15 PM

I have SEVERAL swim suits (normal for me, as I hit the beach every weekend, and I need several so they don't wear out as fast.) some are Tankini, some are two piece, a couple are bikinis - tho not the "super-model" kind.

Yeah, I'm fat. At least 30 pounds worth of chub that nobody wants to look at... including me! - but I don't care - I buy what I like... what I feel comfortable wearing. And of course, what I THINK looks good on me. Others may not think so. But why should I care what they think? As long as I can get some sun & enjoy the surf, I'm good to go! ;) :carrot:

Romeos Girly 05-17-2007 01:43 PM

I love my boy shorts, and they don't give me a camel toe, thank you very much. Now that I've lost some weight, I would love to move down into a real bikini bottom, but I'm afraid I might not feel ready for that until December, lol

Beach Patrol 05-17-2007 01:53 PM

Here's one of my favorite suits of this season (me on left) - it's a tankini, and altho my thighs are screaming "PLEASE HIDE ME!" I still love it! - I just LOVE the color!

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v6...rga/beach2.jpg

I have two or three that have a "skirty bottom" - and I love them too, but they really don't hide the thighs. Nothing (short of a brick wall) would....

wisher 05-17-2007 02:09 PM

Beach Patrol - that tankini s very flattering! makes you look like you have such a nice waist and great boobs! (if I may say so) :D I think the thighs are a part of every woman's fears because that's simply where most of us women carry our extra weight! They seem to be my biggest problem too.

p.s. I've found a great place to shop for cheap bathing suits is Newport News, they have one of the biggest selections around as well as the ever popular "mix and match" section.

JayEll 05-17-2007 02:11 PM

FresnoBeeDude, it is COOL that you have lost 216 pounds!!! :woohoo:

:cheer2: :cheer2: :cheer2: :congrat:

Yeah, go for those water aerobics! Great exercise and fun, too!

Jay

Ready2ShedLBS 05-17-2007 02:15 PM

lol i dont have a camel toe either. I think if they are pinching your legs or sitting on top of your thigh instead of over it, giving a camel toe then they are too small.

...why, Thank you wisher! - you may certainly say so! :D (Compliments are so cool! - Now I'll feel good for the rest of the day!) :carrot:

Beach Patrol- Where did you get that tankini? You look great!

I am still having such a hard time finding a suit. The tops don't give my boobage enough support and the bottoms are all cut funny because low rise is still in for some unknown reason.

pinupdreams 05-18-2007 03:33 AM

woah 50 something for a bathing suit is way too much for me.. im a walmart type of girl lol but i did see some cute ones at old navy and they were my size but then again im not that comfortable with my body yet to slip into a bathing suit.

JayEll 05-18-2007 06:51 AM

I went looking yesterday, saw some at $150. Oh no. Even the Speedos were over $50. My goodness. Guess I'll have to adjust my expectations!

That particular suit I bought at "Goody's" .... but I saw the same suit at JCPenny, only in a different color. :D

yogachick30 05-18-2007 10:41 AM

Well ladies I felt like I needed to contribute here... I just went yesterday to Macy's and found two suits... The first one I purchased is a cute halter top w. matching swim shorts (like board shorts). I am going on a surfing vacation next month and wanted something that provided some bottom coverage so when I wipe out my bottoms stay put and don't ride up my rear...

The second set is again a two piece with a halter top (which I think helps us ladies that have fuller chest). I used to wear string bikini tops but I feel like I'm past that now. As for the bottoms, I got a short boy cut with fuller coverage in the rear. I can't stand when the bottoms keep riding up the crack but now I'm worried that it will be unflattering since I have thick thighs. I didn't want to try them on in the store; I wanted to reserve the shame and humiliation to be had in the privacy of my own home (lol). I will return what doesn't fit or feel comfortable. WISH ME LUCK!

Thanks for suggesting JC Penny. That is one of the few stores I hadn't looked at. I ordered this:

http://www3.jcpenney.com/jcp/IO.Aspx?DeptID=44273&CatID=49737&CatTyp=DEP&ItemTy p=G&GrpTyp=IOF&ItemID=1154654&ProdSeq=13&Cat=mix%2 bmatch&Dep=&PCat=women%27s+swim&PCatID=44591&RefPa ge=ProductList&Sale=&ProdCount=15&RecPtr=&ShowMenu =&TTYP=&ShopBy=0&RefPageName=CategoryAll%25252Easp x&RefCatID=44591&RefDeptID=44273&Page=2&CmCatId=44 273|44591|49737

I am blond and I think it will look cute. Still technically a two piece (one of my goals this summer) and it looks young and also gives bust support.
