Oooooh, thanks for the recipe, Troo!!

Good suggestions, Sheila! I'll have to try some of those. I tend to get munchy in the evening--it's under control--but I need some variety.

Hi Anna (and all), you say that you want something that you can eat slowly and happily. And it sounds like you really enjoy the ritual of preparing a nice meal. How about when you want that snack, taking the time to slice up some apples and some other fruit? Making a mini fruit salad.

Or if you are a salt-craving person (like me!), you can make something called "mock deep-fried chickpeas": preheat the oven to 450F, take a can of chickpeas (rinsed and drained) and place them on a rimmed cookie sheet, bake shaking every now and then (bake for about 35-40 mins, until they are golden brown and crunchy)...pour into a large bowl and lightly coat with cooking spray or a small amount of butter, add salt if desired and 1/8 tsp cayenne pepper, 1/8 tsp garlic powder, 1/4 tsp of oregano and pepper as needed. (These would also be good with cajun seasoning) I find that these satisfy my chip/salt cravings...but I think they are best served warm/hot, if they get cold or you leave them for the next day, they can lose their crunchiness.

I hope that it is okay that I posted this recipe on this thread and I hope it helps you, it sounds like you are doing a fabulous job!

Geez, Louise! I love chick peas! Doing this one tomorrow.

I have a serious chip/salty addiction, and those chickpeas really do the trick...even if you don't really like chickpeas, you should try it. In fact, talking about them, I may make some tomorrow! :)

Using a hot air popcorn maker, sprinkle 1TB of canola oil, and 3 TB of kernels. When done put in a Tupper-ware type container. Squirt 15 squirts of "I cannot believe its not butter" spray (this is calorie/fat/carb FREE), and 1 tsp of Taco seasoning. Cover the container, shake it up really good. Add in 15 mor squirts of the spray, and another tsp of taco seasoning. Shake it up really good. Less then 200 calories. And is considered 1 starch exchange

FresnoBeeDude, that sounds yummy yummy yummy! I get sick of that cardboard taste that the low calorie microwave popcorn has. I could probably do that with the low calorie microwave popcorn, couldn't I?

FresnoBeeDude 05-18-2007 01:36 PM

^^^ I'm sure you can do it, but I like the satisfaction of knowing what I am putting in me. No hidden calories, no hidden salt, nothing. With the hot air popcorn maker, I know exactly what goes in me using food nutritional labels.

Another popcorn suggestion (be forewarned, you'll get greasy fingers!), I found a nice mild Chili Sauce at a DollarTree nearby, I poor that in, and mix it up. Be prepared to lick them fingers clean ;)

Hey There....

I could chime in at length on this one. AND I think it would make a good separate support thread. I'd say it's my big downfall with weight control and any new ideas are appreciated...
