  • i have come across so many posts of goals that dont really tell you how long it took them to lose the weight and i know alot of people would like to know because that just inspires the rest of us to know it wont tell ten million years to reach our goals. post your start weight your current weight and how long it took you to reach it. thank you so much.
  • Hey there... I am not at goal yet but I've been working on this now since end of September/October 2005. So about a year and a half so far.
  • I took 1 year to lose 120 pounds. It was about 10 pounds or one dress size per month. Hope this helps. Photos are in the goal photo album...
  • Its my one-year-anniversary today! my weight loss in one year is 73lbs
  • I started last June, so we're at 10 months and I'm down 110 lbs...not quite at goal just yet.
  • My highest weight was 274 lbs April 2006

Im now at 222lbs March 2007 - so it has taken me almost a year to lose 30lbs, quite a long time really, average of 2.5 lbs per month - but this seems to have worked for me, i havent regained any weight at all, and I seem to be keeping it off. Im still plugging away though!!
  • Whoops sorry, typo, my highest was 254 lbs not 274lbs.
  • I started at 234 lbs. and reached my goal of 145 lbs. in 1 yr., 1 week and 5 days. I'm currently at 142 lbs. with now 8 months of maintenance.
  • I just wanted to thank babeedee for asking this q-very motivational!!-(I never thought to ask that)
  • It's funny reading over this thread because I never thought I would get this far. I hoped I would. When I started, timelines were more important than they are now. As long as it's coming off, it's ok if it takes a bit longer than I expect. I'm living life and losing weight and it's all good. I haven't been under 200 lbs since sometime in elementary school, so it feels great.
  • I started in July 2004 weighing about 200 lbs (I had stopped weighing myself and have no idea of my true start weight, I know it was more than 195 lbs).

I had various events that fall that make it easy for me to tie my weight loss to (I also bought new jeans at these increments, makes it easy to remember the size I was):

    July 2004 - ~200 lbs - 37 inch waist, tight size 18
    Sept - 165 lbs - size 16
    Christmas - 150 lbs - size 14
    March 2005 - 140 lbs - size 10
    July 2005 - 138 lbs
    November 2005 - 135 lbs
    February 2006 - 127 lbs - 27 inch waist, size 6 (sometimes 8)
    this morning - 128 lbs

I lost the first ~50 lbs very quickly, within 7 months. It took me almost another 9 months to lose the last ~15 lbs. I actually thought I was finished in March 2005 - I started maintaining I was very surprised when I lost more weight!

Although it's easy advice to give and hard advice to take, I would recommend not worrying about how long it takes to lose the weight. When I first started, my only weight loss goal was to "lose some weight by Christmas" - I was going to visit my mom and I knew I wanted to lose some weight. I didn't put any pressure on myself to lose a certain number of lbs in a certain period of time! I had lots of goals that were related to improved health (and not specifically weight loss) that helped me stay motivated when the scale wasn't cooperative.
  • I am nowhere near goal yet. But I started my venture on September 4, 2006. Six months and 2 days ago. I started at 287 lbs. I have lost 103 lbs - so far. I'm not done yet. I suspect the next bunch of pounds will come off way, way, way slower.

And I agree 100% with what Glory said. I had no specific goals as to when to lose the weight by. I just started eating right and exercising. I figured the weight would eventually come off.
  • how do you get the measuring stick on your site. I'm new and don't know how it works yet
  • I started eating healthier and moving more in May of 2006. It's March 2007 and I've lost 51 pounds.
  • I started the last week of Oct 06 at 241 and as of yesterday (Mar 8 07) I was 213.4 lbs. I am doing South Beach and exersize. I still have a problem with portion and really need to work on that. Just other layer to chip away at.
