You know, I've read that laying there all night under blankets and not having hydrated can cause some bloat in the morning, even if you don't feel it. I've found this to be generally true, and now I usually wait about 20 minutes after waking up and walking around or getting ready for work to weigh in. It seems to work better.

And TOM related weight, I'm all over that too... it's so true.

If I see numbers, I freak.

I weigh in every 14 days. I don't have a scale at home.

I weighed myself a few days ago and I was down to 193, which is INSANELY WRONG since I only OFFICIALLY started 10 days ago, even if I had been controlling my calorie intake and working out a little bit about a week before that.

Weighing myself every two weeks keeps me from freaking out, and also helps me want to reach a small goal in that two weeks (a 3 pound weight loss). Seeing 3 pounds loss is so much more gratifying than seeing just a 1.5 weight loss on a scale to me.

Jeannette - give yourself some credit. Those 7 pounds can so be real. Espcially if you have a larger amount to lose, and if you were overeating right up until you began your weight loss plan, I think it's totally possible to lose 7 pounds in 10 days. Of course, that rate is not sustainable - if you lost that much any other time than the first week or 2, I'd be worried that you were restricting too much, but in the first little bit, it can happen. I once went from 150 to 144 in my first week on W.W.

If I was you, I'd totally move my ticker.

Hey there,

I agree with Janie Canuck, Jeanette--it could be a real number. But it is probably not all fat. When you start on a new program, the body sometimes adjusts by losing water weight as well. But hey! I'll take it! ;)

kella--are you still there? Hope you check back in and let us know how it's going.

My goodness, look at all these responses! Sorry I couldn't drop in sooner... finals week approaches, and I'm stressing.

I know I shouldn't weigh myself as much as I do, but I've realized that unless I have constant (or near-constant, anyway) reminders about my weight I forget it and as a result I don't stick with the diet and exercise plans. It's not necessarily obsessive, I don't think, but I can see how it would look that way. I seriously don't freak out like this normally, but that sudden weight gain really upset me. Normally if I'm about to start my period I'll gain 2-3 pounds but it's over the course of several days, not all at once, and this is the first time EVER that I woke up weighing more than when I went to sleep. It's some sort of terrible fluke, I think.

Anyway, crisis averted- yesterday morning I was back to 225, and this morning I'm down another half-pound. So all is well.

My guess is that something sneakily salty was involved. A friend of mine suggested the MSG thing as well but I've been off that for years (it gives me horrible headaches). Both my parents have heart conditions and are on low-sodium diets. Because of that, I've never been a person who craves salt at all because I never ate much salty food growing up. So I guess it remains a mystery.

I can't thank everyone enough for all the help. It means so much just to be able to have people talk me down when I get a little worked up (my roommate just told me she thinks I'm developing an eating disorder, which is crazy, but there are issues with me and her and my weight loss that are too stupid and drama-filled to go into here). Anyway, thanks again!

Hey! Congratulations on the drop, even if it is small!

:cb: :cb: :cb: :cheer2:
