Default Fat Rant

So there is this video floating around youtube that is gaining a lot of popularity and mixed opinions.

Basically, a woman speaking to the camera but personal acceptance of her size. I found it very interesting and kind of inspiring. I know several thin people that saw it that also found it thought provoking. its about 8 minutes and covers lots of topics.

there is nothing questionable or offensive on it, i just thought i'd be an interesting topic for discussion here.

what do you think?

About 5 minutes in, she basically says you can never lose weight and keep it off. She said if you want to be thin "choose 2 thin parents" or "4 thin grandparents." I'd still weigh 200 lbs if I had kept believing that crap.

I do agree when she says not to put your life on hold until you're at your ideal weight.

I thought it was really good. I agree with Glory in that I was a bit turned off because she basically said losing weight and keeping it off is a freak occurrence...but really, the statistics say that it is. Not that that's going to stop me from trying, but the stats are definitely sobering.

I totally agree with the "don't put your life on hold" thing too...I hear that all the time from my sisters who weigh about 140 lbs (same height as me). They won't wear swimsuits because they're "too fat". And there's a multitude of other things they're not comfortable doing because of their size...whereas I have had to learn to do these things because I've always been big. NO way, am I putting anything on hold. And YES, I will walk out into the pool area with my swimsuit on in front of dozens of other people!

Oooo, thanks for sharing that! I loved it. And I don't think her message at all was to not lose weight-- after all, she did endorse exercise and did not endorse overeating on the couch-- but to just be happy with ourselves whatever the scale says.
