I weigh myself every morning for weight and body fat %. It works well as a constant reminder and I need that.

for me personally, i found that i have to weigh myself almost everyday. I used to weigh myself pretty consistently and was able to maintain my weight. However, I became obessed with the numbers in a really bad way, so i stopped weighing myself and decided to rely on how my clothes fit me. And that is when i gained all this weight. I didn't realize that the close i wore were all big and baggy on me so while i was gaining weight, everything still fit. Now, i know i have to weigh myself to monitor my weight or else i'll just end up gaining. The only time i don't is when its my TOM.

I weigh when I think of it. I have a scale in the bathroom. If I don't think to weigh before I've popped a handful of vitamins and chugged a bottle of water to chase em down, or gotten dressed, then I don't weigh. Because I want to always do my weigh-ins in my jammies, after using the bathroom, with nothing on my tummy. Sometimes I might weigh every few days, or go a week between, there's no set pattern.

Yet my nearly 18 mo. old son LOVES to weigh in every morning. He gets frustrated if he doesn't step on the scale right to make the little red lights light up. LOL! He's still 25 pounds. ;)

Yes I do!

I have to step on the scales every morning, after voiding my bladder and before I get dressed (i.e. with nothing on). I have skipped a few days along the way...but it truly "keeps me in line". If I don't weigh then I tend to eat and not care, but if I keep an eye on the scale then the guilt is there and I keep control...glad I'm not the only one who is a slave to the numbers!

I only weigh myself once a week - that's really all I need to know if I'm on track or not. There are so many variables that can affect the numbers from one day to the next that I would just drive myself crazy if I weighed more frequently. A weekly WI tells me what I need to know - if I'm down or up from the same time the week before. Beyond that, I'm not too concerned about specific numbers - my focus has changed a lot this time around, and I'm more concerned about overall results than any one number. So far, it's working very well for me and I'm not allowing the numbers to control my emotions or motivation.....I think you just have to do whatever works for you.

Robin, I was wondering with losing over 100 pounds, have you had any problem with excess skin? Sorry if that is TMI to ask?
Thanks

I am happy to say that surprisingly so, I have very, very little excess skin. Now keep in mind I still have more then quite a few pounds to go. We shall see what happens. But I'll take excess skin any day over being 287 lbs. Any and every day.

I got the impression that it makes a difference if you are still actively losing, or if you're in maintenance. For people in active weight loss, I've often heard once a week suggested. It may depend on how much you have to lose, too. The people in maintenance don't tend to have as big of weight fluctuations, and a study showed that they generally tended to keep weight off better if they weighed daily.

In any case, everyone is different, and some people freak out over daily fluctuations, and some don't. I weigh daily.

Ok...(stepping up on my soapbox)...I used to counsel for the Diet Center...we used to weigh our clients daily (except on Sat/Sun). And it was really good because we reviewed everything they ate the day before....and if they were doing something wrong we could catch it before they did the wrong thing for a week and ended up gaining....and also they tend to do better because they didn't think...'oh I can eat this and then still be down in 4 or 5 days...' see you know what I'm saying.

But I personally do weigh in every morning. I too avoided the scale for YEARS and my weight slowly moved up to 205.5 pounds....arghhhh...I had a sneaky suspicion it was going that way..haha...but you know the old saying 'outta site outta mind'....well it also didn't help that I avoided looking in a full length mirror. And wore dumpy clothes...So when I finally tried to put on a pair of nice pants....ok...recently had to wear a pair of ripped jeans to a funeral....nice right?

OK..any questions?

Tina
