So I can have a southbeach bar, piece of fruit, string cheese, etc. in the car if I'm running around, but not food with less-than-stellar nutritional value. If I have a treat (a truffle, a sourdough roll, or even once every 3-4 months a chocolate-dipped eclair) it gets put on a PLATE and eaten at a TABLE.

I focus on foods that take a long time to eat. I have a 100 calorie bag of microwave popcorn almost every day around 3. I focus on eating one piece at a time and it takes me 1/2 hour. Soup is another food in this catagory. Also salad. I add a little Fiber One cereal to yogurt and oatmeal to make it cruchier, add fiber, and also just slow me down in eating it.
I also have dessert every day. I save about 150 calories for this which I have about 8 at night. I look forward to it all day and have something at this hungry hour. THere are all sorts of light ice cream products like Skinny Cow and Blue Bunny and fat free pudding. Sometimes I eat fruit for dessert (depending on how healthy I was the rest of the day). Even then, I focus on apples and oranges which are slow to eat compared to bananas. |

If you totally deprive yourself of the things you really want, then when you finally let yourself have that cookie or whatever, you won't be able to eat just one, you'll eat the whole bag. Then you'll beat yourself up, then look for something else to pig out on... Been there, done that... |
