The thing is, with some of this advice, is that it cannot be used on South Beach. Pear juice, the yakima paste, etc. and some of the other remedies here are too high in carbs and sugars to be used on her particular diet plan.
This is why I recommended cutting back on the cheese (which is a food eaten a lot on the SBD, because it is a constipating food, and making sure to eat a lower carb/lower sugar fruit each day-such as berries. Also, drink more water. If that doesn't help over time, then the next step would be to change diet plans-because honestly, you don't want to have to take a stool softener/fiber supplements/milk of magnesia regularly. ***I would also like to note, that I am a firm believer in "fixing the problem", not just treating the symptoms of it. For example: My SIL's baby is constipated all the time. She won't listen to anyone when they tell her, or the 200 baby care books that make mention of it-but the constipation is being caused by the rice cereal. She keeps giving him the cereal, so she has to keep treating him to alleviate the constipation. It is a "circular" cycle that she just has to keep doing-when eliminating the rice cereal (switching to baby oatmeal instead, which is less constipating) would SOLVE the problem. |
I'm on a high fiber diet and I have problems with constipation too. You should see a doctor about it if all the veggies aren't helping.
