Just one high-fat meal can be bad for arteries - article

Scary.. just one meal can have such a effect on us

Researchers saw negative effects just three hours after meal

Eating just one high-fat meal — in this case, carrot cake and a milkshake — can quickly prevent “good” cholesterol from protecting the body against clogged arteries, a small study shows.

The results of the research weren’t a surprise to the experts, but they say the findings reaffirm something that more people need to understand:

Thanks for posting! It's a good reminder that the beloved bacon-double cheeseburger does more damage than just adding pounds.

Thanks for the article, LindaT.

Goes to show that even a single poor choice has consequences. Imagine what a series of poor choices does.

hhmmm...
I don't think this is much evidence of anything...
It would be more useful to read the actual research...but a sample size of 14 people is hardly evidence. Especially since WE don't know what kind of a lifestyle they have that may affect results.
I wouldn't put much faith in this article.
It still boils down to watch what you eat, and incorporate good fats - which we already know.

I, too am skeptical of the article. A sample size of 14 people is hardly representative, and even it it were, I really don't see the value in it in terms of weight loss and healthy eating over the long term. It seems to me that the researchers are trying to make a name for themselves by sensationalizing a marginal finding from a seriously flawed study.

Many of us here have lost and regained weight many times in our lifetimes. Some of us have used "fad" or extreme diets to get there, only to regain the weight once we return to normal eating. This is why cutting out entire groups of food is never a good idea. :)

The key here is lifestyle change, and that change must be one you can live with for the rest of your life. If you enjoy carrot cake, or any of the so called "bad" foods, then having a small portion on occasion will hardly be of detriment to either your health or your waistline. If you deny yourself that piece of carrot cake you will only feel deprived and more likely to slip in the future.

Anyway, that's just my two cents. I read this article and it kinda steamed me up, and I just had to say something! :D
