Default BBC - Compare your BMI with others worldwide

http://www.bbc.com/news/health-18781786

Kind of a cool app/calculator from the BBC. Input your stats on the right and it will tell you how your BMI compares to others around your age both in your home country and worldwide.

Mine was really eye-opening... at a BMI of about 20 currently I apparently have a lower BMI that 91% of American women between age 15 and 29. 91%???

That's true, Rushie, but the people for who that is true are a very small percentage of the population. Most people are not bodybuilders or powerlifters, and BMI remains a reasonable guideline, especially when used in conjunction with body fat %.

They should also base it on cities. A BMI of 20 in NYC, Philly, Boston, San Francisco etc.... would probably be average.

I think its interesting I've played around with that calculator before, its fun to see where you are at different weights.

Krazy-I agree it would be cool if it could include cities/states too. I live in Southern California and where I live I honestly don't see too many big people my age. Maybe some overweight, but not very many obese at all.

In America I am below average for a female of my age

Globally I'm above average.

This is a self-esteem destroyer.

Saddening. I am certain it's going to become a huge downfall shortly.
I'm 196 lbs...I should not be weight less than the average American woman at my age/height.

I'm just disturbed, and will continue to use this as motivation to drop the weight.

So I don't know how accurate this thing is. I put in my information.. and at 227lbs, being 5'4 it told me "You have a higher BMI than 100% of females aged 30-44 in the world" ... so I guess I'm the most unhealthy person on the planet? But then it also says I have a higher BMI than 93% of the females in America so..

Have you been around Boston lately? 20 is definitely not the average....

I liked this until I saw this:

Did you know?
If everyone in the world had the same BMI as you, it would add 23,547,697 tonnes to the total weight of the world's population

NOT NECESSARY, BBC! :P
