Kicked out of the gym for being too fat...sheesh!

Great story because the gym in question is getting horrible publicity (which they deserve.) Why have her sign the contract and take her money if she is "too big" for the equipment?

Also great because another gym in town heard about it and gave her a free membership, and she's working with a trainer and doing great!

OMG!! That is crazy!!! Who do those people think they are!!! Holy crap. Good for her for not taking that crap.

Awful story with a happy ending. If anyone is in Oklahoma City, maybe they can look up Sandra Ruiz and invite here to 3FC for support!

That's pathetic to kick someone out of a gym for being heavy. Kudos to the gym that's helping her though!

Yes def Sandra come on over!! Also if I was in Tulsa I would def look into that gym that "adopted" her, it sounds like some caring people work there.

They signed her up and 'took' her money, hoping she wouldn't actually show up and use it.

Grrr. I hate mean people!

I am so glad she was brave enough to "make her story known". If it were me I probably would have been too embarrased to say anything :(

I have also always thought it was ridiculous that treadmills and such have a weight limit of 200 or 250 lbs...sure keeps alot of people from using the equipment I would think.

Yep. If they truly felt she was too heavy for their (cheap) equipment, then they should have never accepted her money when she showed up to use the equipment. After reading here so many times about how self-conscious some people can be when they first go to the gym, I can only begin to imagine how upset and embarrassed she must have been when they kicked her off the machines.

I'm glad that a competing gym did the right thing and gave her a place to work out. And free training to boot--wooo hooo!

Somebody posted a story like this (from personal experience) on one of the boards I frequent (running-related), but the gym was kinder and offered to help him with all the other (non-weight-limited) equipment and training until he reached the limit for the other machines.

Wow! I'm glad there is a happy ending.

Oh god...just reading this almost gave me a panic attack! I hate hearing about stuff like this. :( I'm always afraid of being kicked out of theaters, planes, etc. for being too fat (never happened yet, and hopefully it never will!).

I agree that she was brave to speak up! Most of us would have slunk away with our tail between our legs. I love her comment that if she wanted to walk around she could have done that outside. I bet she'll end up being a big success at the new gym.
