Losing It by Laura Fraser

  • Has anyone read Losing It by Laura Fraser? I am almost finished and would love to discuss it with someone. It's basically an expose on all the diet scams out there and also on the way the diet industry has us believing it is not okay to be just a few pounds overweight. It's been an interesting read -- especially the part about the NIH convening all the biggest diet docs and experts in the world and coming to the conclusion that diets don't work, weight is not nearly as important as the types of foods you eat and the exercise you get, and the most important thing we should be attempting is to eat moderately. The book also asserts that 1200/1400/even 1600 calorie diets can constitute starvation to most people.

I am finding it helpful as I continue in a loooong plateau. I am realizing I need to shift my focus to one that is more maintainable through life. For me -- 1400 calories a day is NOT maintainable for life.

    Anyone else read this?
  • It sounds good - I'm going to see if my library has it!
