Grow Your Own "Cultured" meat - Weird!
I am an omnivore, but am reducing my meat consumption, so am very interested in veg*n topics. And on the news the other day, I heard that
food scientists are trying to develop a way to "grow" meat, ultimately for the home consumer (muscle cells, add nutrient medium and "grow" your own fish, chicken, pork, beef...) The have successfully "grown" mouse and frog muscle.
The idea is that it would be nutritious (lean), economical, and safe from samonella, mad cow disease, and other flesh transported diseases.
I thought this would be interesting to discuss. Would you eat this? Do you think many people could overcome the sci fi creepiness of eating meat grown in a petri dish? Would there still be ethical issues in eating flesh? Would we have a need for domestic cattle at all? Could cows, etc become extinct, or end up in zoos?
Completely weird, huh?
