How do you get your calories in?

Being a vegetarian, how do you get 1500 calories in a day? Just curious.

I'm not sure I totally understand the question. It's rather easy to get 1500 calories (or many, many more) as a vegetarian. There are a couple of food diaries further down the page if you want to see what other veggies are eating in a day.

Here's one way: (One of my days)

2 slices sprouted grains bread with 1 T. almond butter

1 cup calcium-fortified orange juice with 1 serving hemp protein powder

2 cups black bean, corn, celery, onion, garlic and cabbage soup

2 cups Smoothie of mango, papaya, pineapple, soy milk and ground flax

2 cups Steamed kale and broccoli with 3 oz. braised tofu and 3 T. salsa

1 1/2 cups Red lentil and leek soup with garlic, tomatoes, cilantro and carrot

1 cup Vitasoy Complete Soymilk

1 Gallon of water

1500 would be pretty easy in a sitting or two, provided you order Pizza Hut or eat a huge box of pasta with cheese.

believe me, meat isn't the only food that has a significant amount of calories.

I have been a vegan for a over 20 years and it is hard to get in 1500 calories. As a test I logged food for 2 weeks and founf out I was getting only 500-600 calories a day.
What I do now is that I have added more nuts and nut butters to my diet.
I also focus on dense grains like bulgur and have added fruit smoothies made with soy milk.
It has been totally horrible trying to make sure I get at least 1000 calories with a goal to 1500-1800 for the next 2 months. I feel full and uncomfortable in the process but I am hoping I will adjust.

Heretolose, is it okay if I ask, was this after you changed things and were dieting, or are you saying you were eating 500-600 calories a day for 20 years and became overweight? If so, WHAT?? Could you give more info on your personal experience? Thanks for sharing with us.

i'm 20 and i've been vegetarian my whole life.. i'm starting to track what i eat and am finding results kinda similar to Heretolose's. i'm not sure how it works out, but it looks like even on days that make me think, wow i ate way too much today, i'm only getting around 1500 calories..

As a raw vegan even I can get in 1500 easily:)
Its called NUTS..LOL

give me a can of mixed nuts and its over baby..oh yah..lol
I can devore about 3000 calories worth in a hour if I let myself..lmao

No I am kinda exgarrating, ..lol

but when I was vegan though and still ate bread and veggie wraps with lots of dressings I never had a problem with hitting 1500, as a raw vegan if I am not in a nut craving mode I do honestly only eat about 1200 calories a day and that is only because I do have me a glass of wine in the evenings usually..big no no to the raw vegans, but I dont care, I work childcare for 7 kids including my own and by god if I want to have a glass of wine, I am having one..lol

But yah on most days as a raw vegan I probabbly am slightly under 1500 unless I have been on a nut binge..
then yah I dont think I wanna even try to count those days..lol
