vegetarian to vegan while OP

hi I'm on my diet plan and eat a lot of veggies, fruits, breads, pasta, and cereal. I'm gonna go through my fridge today and check all the stuff I eat.

I eat rye bread, so I think I'll need to switch and stuff, also do you think this will affect me much while op? That's my main concern... I'm sure it won't but who knows.

Thanks to any helpful advice from fellow chicks!

Keep positive everyone  I'm rooting for ya

Why wouldn't you eat rye bread? Rye tends to be lower glycemic than other breads and is actually a pretty good choice as far as bread is concerned.

well I don't have any on me, but I think it has eggs//milk in it...could be wrong

nelie 01-21-2013 01:53 PM

oh, yeah, eggs aren't often in bread and milk may be but even I've found that to be fairly rare. There are some exceptions like challah bread and egg bagels but mostly bread seems to be vegan friendly. Honey is usually the thing you might find in bread.

And I say be gentle with yourself, it takes a while to navigate. Sometimes things will get you and you'll miss an ingredient but don't stress too much. Do the best you can and learn as you progress.

I'm vegan too. it's easy to go overboard with the sugars and pastas and rice, so make sure you still count calories. Those things (besides my lack of self control) are what is responsible for my yo-yo weight. Ezekiel bread is great, flourless, complete protein + fiber and aminos. All Ezekiel products are sprouted grains, not processed grains and all are vegan. You can usually find it in the frozen bread section at grocery or health food stores. It is dry, but some stevia sweetened jam and it's delicious. I eat the Cinnamon raisin kind toasted and plain. I love it! :) They also make tortillas and bagels too. Good stuff. Good luck on your quest. :)

Bread, unfortunately, often has dairy, or will contain a disclaimer of "may contain eggs, milk, etc.," because it's packaged in a bakery that does use eggs/milk for baking. I like Silver Hills because it's vegan, and has Little Big bread, which has significantly less calories per 2 slices.

I also agree with calorie counting. It's easy to fill up on rice, and other grains (not so much pasta for me because of the milk/egg). Using beans and legumes to help supplement, and always making sure half your meal is veggies, should help :).

Invest in a vegan cookbook. It has saved my life.

Good luck!
