Vegan Meet-up Group

  • Since I moved to a new town, I thought I'd search out some meet-up groups and found a vegan group that meets monthly for a potluck. We met on Saturday, and enjoyed some good food and conversation. Seven adults attended plus one child--two omnivores (including my DH), three vegetarians and three vegans. The food was all vegan. While we were the oldest there, there was a couple probably in their mid-forties, and the others were in their late 30s. I was kind of surprised not to see 20-somethings, but maybe they have better things to do on a Saturday night.

One of the reasons I joined that group was to get new recipe ideas, restaurant ideas and shopping tips. And I did. I discovered that the warehouse-type grocery store I shop at actually carries tofu, milk alternatives and some other meatless selections as well as bulk grains. It doesn't carry quinoa, however.

Anyway, if you're looking to meet some like-minded people and enjoy some good food (I made the lemon coconut bundt cake to rave reviews), consider starting a meet-up group in your area or checking to see if there is already one in place.
  • that sounds really cool... I wonder if I could rustle up some interest for that here.
  • I agree, sounds like a lot of fun.
  • Yup sounds like fuN! SOme vegan food, wine and good people, sounds perfect!
  • That would require me to be social...

As for me, I would absolutely love to do something like that here, but I'm in West Texas (read: cattle country ) so I doubt it would go.

There's a veg society in El Paso http://utminers.utep.edu/vsep/index.htm. An internet acquaintance of mine from another forum is the president. You'd be surprised where veg meet-up groups pop up, there seems to be a few of us sprinkled here and there and everywhere. Don't be afraid to try and start something in your area if there isn't anything already, pot lucks are fun! Madison has a really fun and well organized group, I wish I was available to go to more of the meetups.
