I've been looking for TVP to add in while cooking meat so that I use less meat to help save on money and hopefully calories and I shop at Walmart. I can't seem to find it. I've found the soy protein stuff in the organic section that's mixed in with the produce section but no TVP? Ideas on where else to look?
thanks,
BBB
You know, I've never seen it anywhere but at the health food store. But if I *was* looking at Wal-Mart, I'd check the baking aisle where they have all the Bob's Red Mill (I think that's the brand name?) flours etc. He might have some in his line.

Trader Joe's would be another place to try.
I've always gotten it from health food stores. Even the smallest usually carry it for less than $2.50 per pound.
There's no Trader Joes in my area. I've heard that store is neat though. Thistoo Thanks and I'll try your suggestion and look there and I may just end up ordering online a small amount for a trial period.
It's great stuff, really just takes on the flavor of whatever you cook it in. And the texture isn't as hard to face as tofu (of course some people love tofu!). I am skeptical that you'll find it at Wal-Mart, but do you have a co-op around? Check the phone book (or call the library and get them to look it up for you), you might have a little natural foods co-op in town somewhere that carries it.
If you have a Kroger, they might sell it or could order it for you. You can also go to google and search for health food stores in your city and maybe some will pop up that you dont know about. That is what happened with me. Its way more expensive to order it and pay shipping, but if you have to, it will be worth it.
Another good way to track it down would be to use the yellow pages or check online, not just for health food stores, and veg*n grocery stores or co-ops, but to consider contacting local dieticians or alternative medicine practictioners.
I've never seen it in our walmart. However, our Kroger carries the Bob's Red Mill brand. It's more expensive than buying it bulk at the health food store, so I don't buy it at Kroger, but that may be an option for you.
