A friend who is a college student is taking a nutrition class in a local college, and the textbook was written by the instructor, who is vegetarian. I was looking through my friend's textbook, and asked if I could buy one. I did, and I am so impressed to say that there is actually a college textbook that advocates being vegetarian/vegan. It does include guidelines for those who include meat in their diets. BUT, overall, it is primarily instructional in non-animal-based nutrition. And this is a course in general nutrition! Isn't that great?

That is awesome! I've thought about taking courses to be a nutritionist but then I thought I would not make a good nutritionist for the general population becasue I could never recommend that someone eat meat. But that's so cool that there is a mainstream veg leaning nutritional textbook!

It is a great basic nutrition book! With lots of examples of vegan meal plans! Suzanne asked about the title, and for the sake of curiosity I "googled" it (even though I have the book) and I was disappointed to find that someone made a criticism about it being dated because the old USDA pyramid advice had been updated since the book was written. I don't understand this criticism because the old USDA pyramid is mentioned and illustrated in the book, along with the description that this is old and no longer recommended, and includes the new USDA recommendations along with other pyramid illustrations, for vegetarian, Mediterranean, Asian, and Latin American diets. When I have an extra few minutes I will post a list from the book of top plant-based protein sources. Probably most of you on the vegetarian board will know this info but from time to time I read posts where someone is looking for good vegan protein sources, so I think it may be a helpful list.
