Just watched the New Evans Commercial.. Now is it just me or...Well lets look at the facts first

Evans-
*Clothing store
*For sizes 16+
*fancy dress
*casual wear
*office wear etc

**Sound good so far ladies???

SO why do they use models that arent overweight.. or have tummies i mean sure these are larger girls in the modelling eyes (like size 12) BUT they arent the typical customer of evans..

Just annoys me.. Simplybe does the SAME thing!

That is so annoying! The really sad part is that a lot of these companies have to have a special outfit made for the models since they don't even carry that size. :mad: How lame is that?

Totally agree although occasionly there is a woman that looks about a size 18 on the simply be adverts but not very otfen.

At least when you see plus size clothes items on This Morning they actully use plus size models and Fern Britton is always quick to ask what size they go up to etc :bravo: to This Morning i say.

Ya exactly.. Thing is they look great on these models.. then you go to try it on with your belly or what ever area you have thats a bit overweight and it looks NOTHING like it did on the model...

I just wanna see some avg looking woman i really do!

Strange you started this thread... DH and I saw the Evans commercial last night and he asked me if the Evans in the commercial was the same as the Evans shops in the high street. He thought the ad was for smaller sizes (but with what he called a 'decent sized' model for a change).

Stupid, really, because whenever I used to buy in Evans clothes to sell they got supplied in size packs and in each pack you get 1x16, 2x18-20, 2x22-24, 2x26-28 and 1x30-32 - and it was ALWAYS the 30-32 which sold first followed by the both the 26-28s. I always got stuck with the size 16 - which is why I've got a garage full of them - so why show a smaller size model - surely it would make sense to use someone larger.

That is really weird as I thought it looked like they were size 16.

I have to say I've seen a lot of magazine adverts where I've liked their clothes but I thought most of the ones in the TV advert were unflattering.

Agreed, it's so annoying! It's the same when certain magazines have a plus-size fashion feature and say that they use a size 16 model for it - however they also happen to be 6' tall - in which case it's the equivalent of a 5' 5" person being a size 12 or something. Hardly representative!

Too right... Saw something yesterday where they were proudly boasting *Here's So-and-so, our size 18 model...* Yes, she looked size 18. But she also looked six foot 8... We're not fooled by it... so wy do they bother?

Over the summer my pet hate was those Dove ads, so self-conscious *OOh look at us, we use fat ladies as models...* - in a way it was almost worse than just using regular models... and the trouble was, the 'models' were so irritating (especially that one with the 'va va voom' top - vile!)

Maybe they think that if they show the clothes as they really are that we won't buy them. And they're probably right. Basically they know that if they can get us in to the shop we will probably buy something, even if its not the dress in the advert that attracted us in the first place.

Right... time to go spend some money!

Actually I hate the Dove ads too, all of their "real" women - even the bigger ones - are still reasonably in proportion with flat-ish tummies, maybe just a bit of puppy fat but nothing too serious.

If they just used the women as their models without all that fanfare then yes I'd applaud Dove but it's so obvious that it's just 100% a marketing brainwave rather than a genuine belief on their part that you don't have to be skinny to look good.

And where are the "ugly" women?! I hate it!!

If anyone is watching make me a supermodel on channel 5 they may be as annoyed as me :mad: there is this woman called Jen she is a size 12 they keep going on about the problem with her size :mad: last night the judges said something like she wasn't committing to the 'healthy eating' as much as they'd hoped. Now by 'healthy eating' I presume they mean UNhealthy eating down to a size 6 or something. :mad:

:hug: Lovely ladies -the thing that the fashion industry knows is that clothes don't sell well on larger ladies so they use smaller models and tell the public they are larger! I think they think we are really stupid, why else would we be expected to pay more for clothes that my grannie (if I had one ) wouldn't be seen dead in? I feel very strongly and have spouted about this more than once on this site that we deserve to have clothes that are fashionable and that fit in the sizes we want. I have a very well paid job and spend a fortune on clothes, some companies miss out because their clothes are cut just too darn small ( think Pretty woman for the next comment ) BIG MISTAKE.....HUGE!!
Some day I will redress the balance and produce reasonable priced clothes that are not for the older generation, that run with fashions and that we can afford - bring on that lottery win because I feel some clothes designing coming on!:devil:

You know, it occurs to me the real test of the clothes ranges for 'larger' (ie: average) women is... Do women who are size 10-14 look at those ads and think *I want that!* and then feel outraged it isn't in their size?

That's the real test of how well designed they are - is it something anyone would want to wear? And right now... they still aren't.
