nightime snacking

Things haven't been going too well recently and I seem to have fallen into the habit of snacking in front of the TV and I'm not sure of the best way to combat it. Does anyone have any tips? I seem to do really well during the day only to blow it at night. Grrr

Do something less boring than watching TV!!

How about an exercise bike in front of the telly? Lock the kitchen. Make yourself a healthy snack to have in front of the TV. Go out of the house for a walk, sign up to an exercise class...

Snack on healthy stuff like popcorn or fruit.

Knit, use your hands for something other than eating. It is nice to get a scarf out of the time rather than a blow eating plan.

Good suggestion, Amyn!!! I actually do my Danskin workout balls while watching TV!!! The exercises I can do while lying in bed. :)

what ever plan you are following maybe you can "save" some of your allowance for the evening - maytry n skip a mornign snack for example to have in the eveining when you know thats a porblem for you...

when i have dieted before i ate pickled onions... the stong taste put me of anything else i was craving lol..

or maybe clean your teeth... most stuff tastes yukky after ...

at least you have recognised your wee habbit .... you can do somthign about it

All good suggestions.

How about changing your routine for a few evenings until you get out of the snacky habit. Perhaps go for a walk, go to the cinema, whatever - then when you need to stay at home you could plan your strategy for dealing with a snack attack - get a couple of healthy snacks ready in advance and just grab them when you need them.

I love dipping fruit in to whizzed up cottage cheese with sweetener and a little vanilla - or for a more spicy snack I cut up wholemeal tortillas spray them with that light fry stuff and bake them in the oven until they go crispy then I dip them in to whizzed up cottage cheese with finely chopped chillies, coriander and mint or a spicy salsa. The baked tortilla bits last for a few days if you keep them in a sealed container.

I can't face a morning or afternoon snack, so I eat them in the evening or the equivalent in calories if I'm being bad!

I watch half of my favourite TV show (which is on an hour most nights at the moment) on my exercise bike.

And sometimes, instead, I knit a really complex pattern as it takes so much concentration, you forget to eat!

I also sometimes have a glass of wine - a dry wine is only 70 cals or so and that relaxes me enough to make me forget food.

Wine just makes me relaxed enough to have another glass.

are you drinking enough??
water/ squash / juice that is !!!>. not the alcol-hic kind !

if im thirsty / biut dehydrated i want to eat!

ALSO you metabolism is reduced by up to 10% if you are dehydrated !

Thanks for the suggestions

Taa guys, I do agree that perhaps I'm not drinking enough. In terms of not wacthing TV then I could but I don't watch that much (maybe a couple of hours on week nights and I really like what I'm watching). I could do something with my hands - maybe learn to knit. I've decided that maybe doing some activity will stop me so I'm going to try all of the following:
1) Stop eating after my evening meal
2) Drink water when I feel like I want to eat
3) if that doesn't make the 'hunger' go then do some abs work
4) If that still doesn't work find something 'healthy' to eat.

Fingers crossed?:?:

sounds like a good plan.. let us know how it goes... !
