Buddies needed
:moo:
Hi everyone. Looking for buddies. Need to loose 6 stone (ish) but looking for people to make the journey a little more pleasurable. I am 31 years old and live in Plymouth, England. Married to a fitness instructor who is extremely fit and healthy. They do say opposites attract eh! Write soon :) :moo: aka Sarah |
Hi Sarah, You've come to the right place .I only started getting involved myself about 3 weeks ago( i lurked for 6 months) but i've had lots of inspiration and plenty of good advice from
these guys, **** they even talked me into going to a gym :coach: I also want to lose 6 stone(ish) and this is the best place to start. :) |
Welcome Sarah we will all be your buddies, all at once! You'll be all buddied out! :D ;)
|
Hiya Sarah  married to a fitness trainer eh? :chin: now we'll be picking your brains for info from him
|
not far from you
:) Hi Sarah, I just joined tonight - and I live not far away from you in Saltash. I have 4 stone to loose at least and can't do much exercise because of arthritus and CFS - but hopefully as the weight comes off I'll be able to do a bit more - I really miss swimming and walking. If you ever want to chat just send an email - we could even meet up for a diet coke somewhere if you like.
All the best grannie annie |
Hello and welcome Grannie annie.
|
Hi
So you joined a gym. Is it expensive. I joined one last year but had to give up cos it was so dear. I was going every day at 6.30am before work and I loved it. Swim or gym then shower and off to work all for 8.30am. I wish it was cheaper cos I would rejoin again tomorrow. Why are all these places so expensive? I wish I could afford my own personal trainer. My hubby is a keep fit instructor but it is like a busmans holiday for him. When he gets home the last thing he wants to do is help me! He is good though and does his best but it is a bit like your husband teaching you to drive and we all know how that goes! I am going to try to find a gym which is in my budget. Will let you know how I get on :moo: aka Sarah |
Hi Shush
How are you? Hope this post finds you well. Are you following a set plan or are you doing your own thing? I have not decided whether to follow a plan or to just try to cut back. Let me know if you have any ideas. :moo: aka Sarah |
Grannie annie
Have sent you an email. Gosh it is a small world. Hopefully if we all keeping going it will become a bit smaller eh. :moo: aka Sarah |
Can you tell I am new?
:moo:
Hi everyone. Can you tell from my posts that I am new. I was wondering how to post to say Hi to everyone and now I know. What plans are you all following? I have done so many in the past I am sure I take the best bits from them all and end up eating the same as I do now! Ha Ha! It is the best diet ever. :moo: aka Sarah |
I like the multiple posts madcow ;)
Don't worry, I end up talking to myself on here too sometimes  Is there a council subsidised gym near you? I find they are cheaper than fitness first or LA fitness or chains like that! We will all be your buddies and your personal trainers and your weight watchers leaders! :D |
no la fitness or fitness first in plymouth nor the southwest and the coucil is to tight clean the streets properly let alone subsidise a gym we have a few gyms but most with pools cost about 35 a month ish.
|
:moo:
Hi all. I will get the hang of this one day I promise! Now you know why I call myself Madcow. Am in work today and am going to try to find a council subsidised gym. I do not think I am going to have much luck. Why are all these things that can help you get fitter/less fatter soooo expensive. I have heard that one of the well know slimming clubs is now available on referal from the gp but just you try to get the information sent to your GP. I have asked about 5 times have sent numerous e mails and letters but to no avail. I think it is time to turn to drink! Quick pass the vodka! :moo: aka Sarah |
Hi Sarah,
I am lucky enough to live near a council gym it works out between £25-£30 a month BUT after reading YP1 post about her lovely gym with lovely fluffy white towels and lovely hand maidens etc :snooty: I decided to look at the swanky new gym that opened here about a year ago and before I knew it i had signed on the dotted line £43 a month but the swimming pool, steam room, sauna and a good varity of classes swung it for me.(even though i've been too embarassed to squeeze myself into a swimming cossie for god knows how long :o ) So now I can't afford to eat very much and drink is out of the question i may as well go to the bloody gym! :( |
Sarah is it slimming world? They do slimming on referral there's stuff about it on their site. Next year I may be able to get Rosemary Conley classes on referral apparently.
Has anyone tried an NHS gym? We have one here for people with mental health problems I don't know if you can get in with fat problems ;) I expect you can... |
The only time I've been near an NHS gym was when I was getting physio for my broken ankle, I'm not sure how easy it is to get into them other times.
I love my private gym. The only thing I don't like is that it doesn't have many classes, just circuit training on a Monday evening. I'm half considering starting to go to another gym as well to start kickboxing (as I can pay per class there instead of a membership, and it's at the end of my road), but that might just be a bit excessive :o I need to get Frus to kick my backside to make me look into the kickboxing properly rather than just thinking oh, that might be nice... |
My gym is the best ever! It's a Virgin one and has a pool, kids pool, spa, sauna, steam room, solarium, cafe bar + internet, fully equipped gym and more classes than you can shake a stick at. The good thing is you can join on a month to month basis for £45 a month - so you're not tied into any long contracts. I guess some people think £45 a month is expensive - but really it's only £11 a week which is the price of a Domino's pizza!
Hope you have luck finding a reasonably priced gym Sarah. Love Amanda x |
When I say NHS the one round here isn't at the hospital or anything it is just for people for an alternative to drugs and therapy for depression etc which is a good idea. I'm sure I could go to my local one but I've never asked.

Hi all. Joy of joys have found a "cheap" gym. £2.00 per year membership and £1.00 per hourly session. There is a slight problem..... it is fundamentally for people who have had heart surgery and are recovering for their ops. The youngest member is 75 and the oldest 95. You are only allowed to do 2 minutes on each machine (2 minutes, I am not sure I could hack the pace! ) and the gym instructor looks around 80 himself. He does not own a pair of trainers and walks around in his brogue shoes! He even had the cheek to ask me if I wanted to join. Please someone tell me a) I do not look that old b) do I look like I have had heart surgery c) Is it time to dye my hair?. You have to take your blood pressure before and after exercising! At least I would be the youngest there I suppose! I will find a cheap, affordable gym if it kills me!
:moo: aka Sarah |
 Sounds a fun gym. :chin:
|
 sarah that sounds like fun! Go show the crumblies up!
Yp go kickboxing it is wicked ;) :rollpin: It really does you good to mix up the cardio - I swear my last 1 1/2stone came off because of the kickboxing! (I was dieting too, but I'd been doing that for ages with no effect!) Your running will help with the fitness and things, you just have to master the punches and kicks! |
Sarah that gym you found sounds fantastic ! All that top man totty working out in their Y's. :o and at that price you can't complain.
|
sarah have you tried the big ymca on coburg street or the kitto centre?
|
Sarah, that gym you've found sounds perfect - you'll be the fittest one there by a mile, and you won't have to wait long for any piece of equipment to become available! What a result, and a bargain too!
Nice to see some new faces around here - been AWOL too long myself and all these newbies to catch up with!   Janey |
Forgot to add a comment re NHS gyms - I work at the James Paget hospital in Great Yarmouth, and we have a gym on site - nice and cheap but no pool, and open to staff, patients and the general public.
Only problem was, when I went to look around a whole load of sick-looking people were coughing and spluttering all over the equipment and I didn't join in case I caught some kind of dreaded lurgy from all the expirated snot and coughed up chest crud :barf: :tired:  ...it sort of put me off! I think I'd rather pay an arm and a leg and go to a fit person's gym instead! All the best, Janey :D |
actually that might not be a bad idea derriford has a wicked gym and its not full of sick people
|
Ugh! :p I notice that everytime I come home Janey (usually @ xmas) everyone seems to have some sort of dreaded lurgy  and I always end up catching something and being ill for a month or more :rollpin: i'm never ill over here..its rare for me to catch a cold :) but i'm guaranteed to catch one there

Hi all
I do not know which is worse, the posh gym with all the thin, beautiful, tanned people or the one where they all look like they are goind to die any minute! I have decided not to join the gym but am going to go to hubbies classes. I know all the girls there (and they are all nice) I will not have to worry about giving anyone mouth to mouth to keep them alive and the best thing of all is that I won't have to pay. I live near Dartmoor which is beautiful so we shall get out walking at the weekend and take in some lovely fresh air too! I did belong to a very posh gym in Plymouth which cost me and hubbs £99.00 per month joint membership but at the mo we can't afford it. You never know if my six numbers come up tomorrow night I might buy the gym! Joy of joys managed to get the referall paperwork sent through from the slimming club so hopefully real soon I should be able to get back to slimming club. Trying to go solo just seems to be such a hard slog. Hope you all have a lovely healthy weekend
lol :moo: aka Sarah |
:goodluck: Sarah..thats great :D

First weigh day yesterday!
Hello everyone. Hope you all had a nice weekend. Mine was ok just goes to quick. Was my first weigh day yesterday and joy of joys I have lost 3lb. I was quite impressed with that as I have not really started following any plan yet. Have just cut back on the naughty things and oh boy must have been eating a lot of those naughty things! Went out for a walk at the weekend but it was so cold! I think our summer has been and gone. Never mind.
I am so chuffed about my 3lb loss and am hopefully seeing the doc this week about my slimming club referal so will let you know how I get on! :moo: aka Sarah |
:cp: Well Done Sarah :D
